Anyone else noticed this? I've seen several characters now, one being a Capet princess, have a child without the other parent but still marked as a bastard.

It's called single dads. Look 'em up. All the single dads, now throw your hands up.

[sub]There's possibly some event magic going on behind the scenes: if so, a buggy event might try to pick an invalid character as a parent, or just forget about the other parent altogether.[/sub]

They're born out of wedlock in the case of no fathers. There is an event for "Your daughter has been indiscreet..." where you can keep the child, banish, etc.
Ah right that must be it. I've never had that event in 240 hours of playing the game, with 1000s of daughters 0_0. Learn something new every day.

It tends to happen if character with the lustful trait has an event occur where they impregnate/get impregnated by someone. Sometimes the other parent is lowborn or even non-existant, but the child is created anyway due to the event. If there was no other parent or the child was denounced, then you see a one parent child.

The other person is usually a servant (and therefore not in game as a character), or as others have said, the child has been denounced (ie the father isn't admitting it).

There are also a fair number of people at game start for whom only one historical parent is known.

I never saw this in the previous patches though. There are even fathers who have kids without a mother.

I can tell you that in my second ever game of CKII as Mathrafal I had several children who lacked a parent, and that was two days after release.
