Due to popular demand (1 guy so far - Daelyn75 :D) I will share the mod I made. See the changelog below.

ONLY TESTED WITH SMEP 6.0 BETA for AoD (made by Atruejedi)
http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?488233-SMEP-6.0-for-AoD

AND IS INTENDED TO WORK WITH 1936 SCENARIO ONLY.

If you use the events and play as Japan it might be to easy since AI China gets quite a few penalties.

Code:
#############################################################
# New AI events for SMEP 6.0 BETA AoD 1936 only by Arowaner # put into austria.txt event file
#############################################################
#
#The aim of this project is to create new event chains for the AI only.
#
#Why am I doing that?
#I fond that in AoD 1.07 with SMEP 6.0 BETA everything is so much better then before - I love it. But I find Japan seriously underpowered in the war with China.
#It is supposed to be a good challange for a player chosing Japan but the AI, even the new one, can't handle it. Japan has no chance at all to win the war with China.
#An AI controlled Japan has simply to few infantry and milita units to keep the offensive going. Landings are only made with one or two divisions at the most.
#This means that Japan will never take any of the pacific islands and hold them long enough to benefit from their resources. Siam and the whole of Indo-China
#will fall to the Chinese or the British. India or Australia are never in danger. Often times Japan never reaches Nanjing before being stopped by the massive
#army of china. I want to see them being stopped at in the southern mountains and not around Bejing. The nationalists produce a huge army and lose few. For Communist China this means that in the new civil war it will almost certainly be doomed.
#Most importantly when playing Germany one can never expect Japan to at least hold the line against Russia should one chose to invite them into the Axis.
#
#
#
#What is changed?
#
# - 1936 setup for china will only allow for 1000 MP (otherwise CHI never has to produce consumer goods because of all the money from the workers)
# - this MP will be returned to them in smaller bits over the course of the next years
# - National China has a total IC modifier until end 1939 so they dont mass produce INF and MIL.
# - they cant research
		#early infantry division
		#Human Wave Doctrine
		#Basic Machine Tools
		#Basic Construction Engineering
	        #Improved Construction Engineering
		#Advanced Construction Engineering
until mid 1939
# - Marco Polo Bridge will give the Japanese huge combat boni to reflect the merciless assault by the Japanese. And 15 dissent for CHI. This effect ends with the Nanjing Massaker. This is to ensure JAP will at least get as far as Nanjing.
# - The northern Army event will create additional troops for Japan
# - Nanjing massaker will create some GAR divisions. The idea is that when JAP AI has more GAR on the mainland then less INF units will stay put surpressing partisans
# - Mengkukuo birth of a nation event will move the their capital to Jining and increase infra there by +10
# - in turn the site of the former capital Hohhot will have -10 infra (this is so that no Jap units guard the capital where it once was: in crappy infra near the front (with lots of attrition) instead of fighting)
# - Taking over the whole of VIC indochina will give a few JAP divisions in the region. Siam will get a few units when it takes cambodia.
# - Finland now has a chance in the winter war to last until winter war ends can trigger. They recieve combat boni and additional troops. Before they were always annexed by SOV and then sweden joined the axis - massive fights on the scandinavian front followed. Taking the action away from the further south.
# -many events to move the capital to the right place post war (various nations)

This is not the whole thing I made. I also changed quite a few things in the smep files. But of course I can not upload those since those are not my work. So consider this a watered down version of what I use for my game.

Any comments, questions and rants are welcome.
Download the file and copy it into "Arsenal of Democracy/db/events". It replaces the austria.txt event file. I suggest you make a backup of the original beforehand. This will most likely break your savegame as events might fire unintentionaly after you load. So only use it for starting a new geme in 1936.

My thanks Arowaner! I especially like the Finland events. I was going to see if you posted it and if you hadn't I was going to give Finland a bunch of units and bonuses. I already gave them a 70 attack/defend snow, blizzard, and cold bonus but it didn't seem to stop the Soviets who still annexed them before February 1940.

Very nice, I need to try this some time.

I already gave them a 70 attack/defend snow, blizzard, and cold bonus but it didn't seem to stop the Soviets who still annexed them before February 1940.

I gave them lots of XP, a more or less historical air force and navy, a lot more int/ftr doctrines (they really need them to even mimic history) and a little more IC. Messed with the leaders a bit too (Mannerheim should be skill 5, not 4, etc.). But your approach to edit their combat bonuses sounds good as well, I need to try that.

Well what I did was a mere short term hot fix to avoid having to send lots of troops to scandinavia all the time instead of fortifing narvik with 3 forts and some mounteneers. This is when having more regions would come in handy because then it would simply take longer to annex Finland. But the finish AI is not helping. A human would wipe the floor with the SOV having this kind of help. And what happens? As soon as SOV DOW all units that had been well entrentched in the forest behind a river start their hike to the front line where they get their butts handed to them by SOV ARM. One game I had this was really evident. All the extra units they got were destroyed after they got trapped by tanks. SOV actually had all fin provinces but did not annex yet. Just then the smep end winter war fired. 1 day later it might have been to late. Of course because all their provinces were taken they had 0 IC and low infra everywhere. It took 2-3 years until they were anywhere near normal. I guess fin AI does not repair its provinces.

Actually I avoid giving anybody more than a handful of units if any at all. Because this leads to even more units overall and slows down the game. Combat modifiers and events help without causing this issue.

Well the Fins lasted a couple more weeks than normal but they were still Annexed by mid February. The only thing left to do is give them tons of units and forts . . . bleh. When I changed the build scheme for the Soviet Union and Japan they have proven to eat their enemies. AI Germany can't get past Kiev/Minsk and will eventually lose since they run out of manpower, and China stands no chance to the point where I had to beef them up or they get wiped in two years. So I couldn't use your China malus events because I just made them stronger to try to stalemate the front and it has sort of worked. By 1942 Japan has maybe 15 chinese provinces and has gone to war with the USA, while the Eastern Front with Germany/Soviets are a total stalemate.

Just giving the Soviets a good building scheme changed them from a push over to a monster. Evenso if you were to play Japan or Germany i'm sure you could still defeat them. However, now I think this has much to do with them swamping Finland with units so they don't stand a chance.

It took my quite some time testing the winter war until I got it so that the Fins win/survive about every 3rd time. Feel free to up the modifiers if you want them to win all the time. Even SOV ARM has no chance when they get delayed as soon as they attack :D
Weserübung, who is also working on the AI builds, reported the same things you have experienced. SOV and JAP were really hampered by flawed build schemes. Take that away and they own.

From what I can see the AI in general does not repair its provinces, even peaceful Sweden took ages building the improved infra in the metal rich province (Kirkuna?) Germany at war took ages rebuilding virtually all its bombed provinces. To me, it appears the AI doesn't dedicate any IC to repairing provinces.

Instead of forts how about engineer brigades for that +40 dug in bonus? As the US I just took Tokyo, the Japanese had 1 div with a brigade and all 24 in the formation got the bonus. I had to hit them from 5 directions.

It doesn't repair unless (if it works? infrastructure = 0.1 #max % of ic used on this slider.). Otherwise its automatic. The command is here under db/misc

# _EV_FREE_INFRA_REPAIR_, Each day all province structures are repaired for free with below amount:
0.01

So it is repaired apparently even for the player, but it is hella slow.

What modifications were necessary to stop the Finns getting annihilated? I am sick of seeing this extremely ahistorical wipeout of the Finns .

Don't know what Arowaner has done but I have made the following modifications:

- gave all the Finnish INF division an ENG brigade
- changed the Finland's GDE to 0.90 (IIRC I copied this from Mjarr's Mini Mod).

The Soviets haven't won the Winter War since in any of my test games.

How could Rabe be minister for China ? He was just Siemens employee in China and didn't have any special relationship with Chinese leaders.

I was just thinking we have Walter Stennes as minister for China that's why and the were much cooperation between Germany and china. I think I use more game logic than RL logic. Rabe had never been in Germany Hitlers Germany and not sure how loong he had been there but I am pretty sure it was over 20 years.

I am playing with this improvement now. Japs advanced well until Nanjing Massacre. Then penalties imposed on Chinese were removed and Chinese pushed Japanese a bit in the North. But now Japanese brought more reinforcements to China and is now able to advance slowly. I think the imrovement made good job for buying time to Japanese for more preparation.
