Just a little semi-cheaty thingy I use and can't remember reading it anywhere. I discovered this not long after I started playing.

When exploring you see the borders of terra incognita and if you go to the economy screen you can see if these undiscovered areas belong to any one or not. The colour of the COT will show up on colonized places while uncolonized will remain white meaning you can concentrate on exploring the new places/making contact whatever you want.

I use this semi-cheat thingy sometimes. Don't think it's a cheat really. It can be explained with rumors spreading through fellow europeans, merchants, local inhabitants and so on. Maybe it should be seen as a very minor exploit.

Actually at my computer it works both in political and trade mode. And in normal mode you can still see a border so unless it's your own border you know somebody's out there. ANd it's EU2 with 1.05, no other modifications. Is it just me?

This is an issue with the TI shroud. It would be very hard to get it perfect as it would have to over lap each province and if it did then what would happen if you discovered that province. To fix this you would need a seperate space between each province/sea zone to act as a border shroud, this would add to the complexity and difficulty of the map big time. So the best thing is to just take the advice above and consider that you know that info from scouts and rumours ...
