He meant adding cheat events.

I'd be up for replacing the cheats with events. It could be set up with a new optional definition statement in the event script to define a one-word key to fire the event if typed in the console. Event effects equivalent to the traditional cheats could be provided, with events codes using them in a "cheat events" file. Event scripting-savvy users could then edit the effects and/or add their own.

Except that after you do this, at the very least all of your garrison units on anti-partisan duty have lost their orders. If you're Germany after some successful campaigns in central/eastern Europe this becomes a clickfest.

Yeah I hope they have the same f12 command prompt input. EU3's cheats were kind of annoying to input.

HOI3 needs at least as many cheats as HOI2. Not saying anyone needs cheats but the option makes manipulating the game in new and fun ways possible. Surprising what a little resource boost and early government shift can do to the relative strengths of nations.

Also nofog is a basic requirement. What are you going to watch while waiting for your war to start? Might not be necessary if you were given at least some kind of clue as to what is going on more than 2 provinces past your border. I'm sure the major countries had all kinds of intel on military strengths and movements everywhere. Germans knew there was a massive buildup for D-day, just not where it was going to happen.

So I think we agree we want cheats or ballance od debug commands - whatever we call them :) There are certainly some workarounds, but we really need acceptall: "You crappy puppet, accept the deal!" :)

I've always wondered how the cheats are first discovered in public. I mean, they program them in, and then we use them, but it's not like the cheats are listed in the manual? Does Johan PM someone here and leak out all the cheats on day one? :p

A good first thing to try is to look for text strings in the game's EXE file and try typing them into the console. It works for most games where the programmers haven't tried to hide the cheats. The 'strings' application is useful for this - see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897439.aspx If you're very bothered about the law, you might want to check the game's EULA before doing this though - I guess some people could claim it counts as reverse engineering...
