I worry that this may have already been addressed on this forum, but I looked back over three pages and didn't see it.

So, my question is: how to rank up on prestige? Even playing with the United Kingdom, prestige is difficult to really grow. This is particularly the case later in the game, when Germany is formed and inexplicably rakes in the prestige points. So, what are the preferred strategies of this august body to position one's nation as the most prestigious in the globe?

I would recommend that you find a civilized nation and decide that you do not like them. Declare war on them. Utterly defeat them. Do NOT annex any territory, but instead choose to humiliate them. As an added bonus, make them pay war reparations as well to help fund your war and refund the poor widows of the land. After the peace treaty expires, do it again. Do this until the end of the game.

Never reduce defense spending. Ever.

Use Guarantee Independence to get yourself into wars with other nations who insist on attacking nation that you give the GoI to. Free declaration of war, I do believe. Just make sure you can win the war.

Don't lose Dreadnoughts in warfare. These lose prestige points for you.

Research cultural techs. Some of them give inventions that can give a lot of prestige if you're the first to get them, and others provide positive modifiers to your prestige income.

Culture techs and colonisation are probably the biggest boosts to your prestige, although the most prestige can be gained in wars - as long as you win them, of course.

Also, building a fleet of capital ships as a fleet-in-being gives you prestige as long as you don't get them sunk.

When playing Uruguay I kept a bunch of central and south American nations to farm for prestige, and Haiti. Every 5 years I just collect. Also max out your social reforms, not sure if you have to fund them to get the prestige, they give you a constant stream of points every month.

And, apparently, having a satellite nation gives you a constant feed of prestige points. I just learned that.

Actually getting the cultural points is hard because Germany and other nations get there first, and AI nations trade tech with almost no penalties.

Your game score is influence more by industrial development.

Ewwww!

:p

His book "Guns, Germs, and Steel" (pol. 'Strzelby, zarazki, maszyny') is really great. I think, that all Victoria players find it intresting. It's more about civilization than biology.
Back to the topic. Yes, satellites are good source of prestige. Especially, when they are superpowers. I think that the amount of prestige you get from satellite is connected with it 'power'.

Power?

Anyone able to confirm and quantify that and add it to the wikki?
