I just noticed the screenshot that shows a character's personal history in the game -- the day he became a member of the senate, the day he won X battle, etc.

That is like candy to me. I hope these histories remain accessible after the character dies; and I would love it if the game has a working "history of the dynasty" text file, such as EU3 tried to implement. (The nation summary you see when you quit EU3 is a good idea; it's just broken in some fundamental ways, and is too schematic right now).

I play Crusader Kings quite a bit and have always wished for some kind of persistent history log that at least gave a timeline of rulers and major events. I hate forgetting about grandpa Mieszko and everything he did for his dynasty...

I think the history is getting better. We saw in EU3 the national history after you resigned or the game ended. That was nice, but now, because of the AARs and detailed characters we are seeing the evolution of the history of the game.

Outstanding!

I do like that feature as well. I loved CK and spent countless hours looking over the past kings of my dynasty, trying to remember what they did and didn`t do. I wish this character history was in CK.

I love it as well. I hope we will be able to export it to a 'personal' file with the character image and what not so we can save them for comparison purposes from game to game or put them on websites. That would be very cool methinks.

Well, we already have leader histories in HoI2. But then we have so many generals there that it isn't that good as it could be ;)

I encourage Paradox to implement more things like this in their future games, it makes for some great reading and you get a feeling of accomplishment from seeing character's past exploits!

No doubt. The historical aspects from the gamer perspective are incredibly important in history based games in my not so humble opinion. That was more then half the joy of D&D and all the RPGs for that matter as far as I'm concerned.

I would love to be able to open up some analytical tool and compare character histories from different games and factions over time and see if my skill level is actually improving and I'm not talking in the general score aspects. Something like that would add such a special dimension to the game methinks. Hell if done right they could call it a new genera. For example 4XR or RP4X.

Hell SD & IC were successful with their hybrid RT4X effort for Sins. So Paradox (PD) should try something fresh and bold as well. I think the gamer world will be highly receptive to say the least.

Agreed! I found the EU3 national history a nice touch that could have used a bit more attention. It's good to see this aspect being improved upon!

I whole-heartedly agree with all of the previous posters. While detailed character histories alone do not make or break a game, they are the one little thing that makes me think "wow, that's so cool, I HAVE to get that game!"

As said before, it really shows that your people have actually *done* something, which gives a great sense of accomplishment, even if they failed miserably :D

Agreed. Stuff like "The long war of XXX aggression lasted for 0 years..." was annoying in EU3. But if this is done correctly, it will be one of the best features of EU:R!

I didn't mean to get people's hopes up about this kind of national history log in EU:Rome -- I have no idea if there is such a thing. I had just noticed the screenshot that shows something like an individual character's history.
