Character culture conversion?

I noticed that sometimes Alp Arslan turns Persian (from Turkish). What are the general conditions that make one ruler to change a culture? (different culture of demesne/councillors/wife.../their vs his stats...?). just curious

culture conversion can happen:
-by being tutored by someone from a different culture
-event which allows you to swap culture to that of your liege
-event which allows you to swap to the culture of the people you're ruling

that's it afaik.

I meant this one. How is this triggered and are the ruler's stats/councillors etc... involved in some way?

AFAIK all it takes isp you having your court in a county not of your culture. A decision will always exist in the intrigue tab, nothing else is required, except maybe some prestige cost, not sure there.

there is no such decision (check - william the conquerer/ hautevilles of sicily etc etc...)
the only related decision in intrigue menu is when you are culture A and your liege is culture B - to convert in culture B

Cant check right now as Im at work, but maybe its because I play CK2+. After a while you start having trouble remembering the differences.

Yep, it is all liege based. In my recent BYZ game as a duke a Georgian Doukas became Basileus, and since then there has been a "Change culture" decision available (I am of course, Greek in a overwhelmingly Greek realm).

Converting to the culture of your realm is a triggered event. No idea what exactly triggers it but I've married my heir to the Queen of Norway in a 1.07 game & when I took over as her heir who was Norwegian I got the option to embrace Scottish culture after a while as I was ruling from Gowrie with the Kingdom of Scotland as my main title (all my demesne titles were in Scotland too and I held 2 duchies in Scotland).

My current 1.08 game I have a Danish ruler whose just taken over the Kingdoms of Scotland and Ireland after his grandfather died (his father was my heir whom I married to the Queen of Denmark but died before he ever got the chance to rule) but I had to stop playing around 3am last night so I could get some sleep so I haven't seen the event fire yet.
