I've played this game for 275 hours but I've yet to see a single crusade. Figured I'd start a new game as a Catholic and ride it out in England until they started so I'd get to experience one. I chose the Petty King of Essex. Everything was good for about 5 years and then shit started to really hit the fan.
Somehow a 0 year old female became an antipope. This dropped the moral authority quite low and heresies started to pop up although it was manageable. I figured this was going to cause issues later on so I got her betrothed to my son so that I could get her to my court and kill her. Found out later this was a hopeless attempt since she has high diplomacy and everyone loves her and I only had 3 intrigue. She's currently unkillable due to the lack of assassinations and is now staying in my sons court.
Around 790 a Catholic uprising happened in Tunis and they managed to win. This unlocked the jihads and 2 of them started instantly, both for Anatolia. One of them failed but the second one was successful. With Anatolia being captured this caused the crusades to be unlocked since ERE was failing, the Pope instantly calls a crusade for Jerusalem (which I suppose I wanted to see although not exactly this way). As to be expected it fails miserably against the Abbasids who are now massive from the Jihad and prior holy warring.
Moral Authority for Catholics is now down to 10%. Heresies are popping up everywhere and no one is able to deal with them; moral authority quickly plummets to 0%.
As it stands now a third of Britain is split in 3 between Lollard, Cathar and Catholic. Fraticelli is completely dominating France and Italy surpassing 50% control and Cathar and Lollard are mixed in everywhere. The only remaining place that is still solid Catholic is Aquitaine. Even Rome has become Fraticelli. Moral Authority is now at -42.1% and it's only 817. This has all happened within my first rulers lifetime.
I'm getting hammered by monthly religious uprisings and 2 Norse raiding parties a week. Is there any way at all to salvage this mess?
