Changing to a republic

Hi folks,
I would love to play a game as an Irish republic because of the awesome Irish ideas. Ireland doesn't get an event like GB to change to a repulic, does it? Is there any way I can encourage revolutionary rebels to spawn? Anything gamey?
If that's not a viable option, how could I change to a republic via the console?

There is an event in both Religious and Aristocracy idea group that will spawn revolutionary rebels. Also, in Diplomacy there is a idea that allows you to declare war on a Republic (if you are a monarch; and vice versa) and if you get 100% warscore, you can OFFER they change your government. But, that last part won't be possible when the next expansion rolls around.

Also, peasants have a 50% chance.

Or you can do what I do and edit the Form Ireland Nation decision to change your government to a Noble Republic. Can't do ironmode once you edit the files until you completely get rid of the game off your harddrive and reinstall the game.

I've also had an event pop up (it seems to be random) where in the nobles decide you don't need a monarchy any longer and then you can decide between killing your king and switching to a republic or killing the nobles for a stability or something. I've had it happen as England and Byzantium with 2 very different ways of playing so I have no idea what triggers this event if anything.

No and noble republics can't take plutocratic ideas either.

I believe this will work (I never play ironman though):
1. Create a Republic_of_Ireland folder in the mod directory
2. Create in that directory a decisions directory
3. Copy the file IrishNation.txt into the directory mod/Republic_of_Ireland/decisions
4. Create in the mod directory the following file and name it Republic_of_Ireland.mod

name=Republic_of_Ireland
path=mod/Republic_of_Ireland
tags={
}

5. Edit the file IrishNation.txt to your heart's content.

You still won't be able to play an Irish Republic in ironman, but at least you'll be able to play it in your new mod. And you should retain the ability to play "vanilla" nations in ironman.

Revolutionary rebels change your government. Nobles just give you a couple of bad modifiers if they succeed.

This advice was given to me and it worked and ended up being one of the best games i have played in a long time.


Start as Freisland attack the Irish OPM of your choice.

Annex release as vassal play as vassal.

You should be an administrative republic.
