As it stands, Byzantium gets the mission for "Restore the Pentarchy" really early at a time when it's not advantageous for it. For instance, if you've retaken Athens and a portion of the greek islands, the game seems to believe you're no longer in a precarious position (when you can very well be) and that now is the time to end the Schism.
My proposal is a very simple change: require for the mission to trigger you must control any two (or three?) of the five provinces required for the mission. It's fair to assume that because Byzantium has recovered Antioch or Jerusalem for instance that it's probably in a position where it can continue to exert influence over Rome and all the rest.
