Anyone noticed that the religion of any province would have changed at any point?

Am getting slightly annoyed due to the fact that i have had some provinces for more than a hundred years under my rule and they have changed their culture to roman but the religion is still druidism, animism, greek or whatever other "pagan" religion when considered to my way superior roman religion.

I want to be able to change the religion of a province even if it takes to slaughter all of the heathens within the province and replacing them by my capitals citizens (forcefully sent to occupy now empty province).

I do understand that historically there was a lot of tolerance about religion in the era of roman empire, however there are also times of intolerance when zealots of other than dominant religion were put to death just for fun. All remember christians being fed to lions and other beasts in Colosseum and even being burned alive.

Let me be the cruel emperor with narrowminded view on heathens within my dominion!

Building a Temple and trading Spice into the province should help. Also, if the Governor has a Religious Trait maybe it could help.

A governor with a high charisma value and high popularity will increase the chances. Religious traits for the governor will increase the odds, as will trade with your high civilization provinces.

Without side tracking us too much. You are correct that the pagan Romans were very tolerant. The Christians were pursecuted primarily because they were viewed as intolerant trouble makers not because of the dominant religion seeking to pick on some little guy.

When the Empire became Christian that of course all changed and persecution by the dominant religion was the rule.

Perhaps we will see this shift in further expansions.

Christian were persecuted because they refused to honor the Emperor as deified person ;) Other cult (Egyptian, Punics, Graecchian, Gaulish, etc.) accept to honor the Empereror as a "god".

That is the simple grade school explanation yes. But it misses the larger point that Christians refused to acknowledge that "any" other Gods were valid. A bit of a problem in a society as religiously diverse as the Roman Empire.

The Christians had an annoying habit of not "going along to get along", like a good Pagan would. At times, the Romans even made exceptions for the Jews, but the Christians were viewed as "rabid beasts" and a threat to the political order. Nothing aroused Roman ire so much as political troublemakers.
