Changing dominant title

So, what do I have to change in the save files to change my dominant title? At the moment, Im mucking around with the Hauteville's, and when I take the Duchy of Calabria, I want to make it the dominant title over the Duchy of Apulia.

Anyone know?

Make a backuop copy of your savefile.

Do an auto-replace (not manual): raplace the APUL entries with the CALA one (respect the case). now, search a string like this one

tag = CALA

followed by one like thhis one

tier = duchy

write APUL instead of CALA (beware, do this only if tag = CALA is folllowed by tier = duchy).

Let's see... You have The Duke of Apulia:

To change the dominant tag you need to edit the savegame. (Take a backup in case you scew up!) Use a text editor, and find the first instance of the tag (APUL):

Here you change the main tag from APUL to CALA, and switch the order of the two in the list:

The next instances of the APUL tag is in the characters section:

Here you do a search/replace operation on all instances of "tag = APUL" with "tag = CALA", but wait a little bit...

The tag is used two other places in the file, the title definition and the country definition:

The title definitions define all titles held in the game, so you will have a definition for both APUL and CALA. Take notice of which is which so you can change APUL back after the search/replace mentioned over.

The country definition is only for main titles, so this one should be changed in the search/replace.

Save the file, and restart the game:

I've just tried this same procedure 3 times and it doesn't work, sure on the loading selection it does show the "kingdom of Poland" (but it doesn't show national territories in green no more.)

my situation is that I've just taken on an additional title of "king of Lithuania" and it doesn't want to go away!!! Is there something special that I have to do for kings or is my game just so screwed? GARH! Whatever I do, it just doesn't want to transfer back to "kingdom of Poland" even when I've erradicated all traces of "LITH" in the save file. Save on the title spot and in the owned titles spot, the rest is all gone, even my lithuanian courtiers have magically become Polish.

Being that its Havard its pretty likely the method works. Ive managed to duplicate the Apulia to Calabria feat, though I now realise its Campania I want to become the main title. Though by the time I am able to claim Campania, Im also able to claim the King of Naples, so its fairly moot.

Now I just have to figure out how to add titles I dont rightly have the claim for. King of Jerusalem, f'r'instance.

If the problem is the provinces in the loading screen only it is no problem: Just start and then save the game. Next time you open the save it will be ok

Unfortunatly, it is not only that problem, it still shows the Lithuanian tag. Before you jump to conclusions, I may not be a veteran mod but I've pretty much tweaked files since EU1 so I pretty much know how to orient myself.

Now, the real symptoms are that the loading screen does show the right coat of arms (but still no colour on the core provnces) and when you enter the game, the coat of arms is the right one, however, my king is still "king of Lithuania and Poland" and not vice versa like in the loading screen. I've pretty much tried everything but it still won't work. Now, the only real thing that's hitting me in the head is that I'm still on 1.00 and not on 1.02, which MIGHT affect it.

You probably missed something Havard mentioned but didn't highlight:

Line 1421 lists the titles. The previous picture showed APUL CALA as the first two titles, this one shows CALA APUL. In the definition of your kingdom, LITH must still be before POLA.

Oh, I switched them around to "trick" the engine into thinking that Lith was subserviant...

However, I still don't understand the Logoc of it, if LITH stays first, then how will the engine notice that POLA is 1st?

what is written in this line (1421 in the example) dont matters at all.
try the method i suggest above (with a clean save, not a messed-up one).

Well, there it is... In 1.00 the titles are alphabethically, i.e. first in alphabet is primary title. In you case it's LITH, so any edits are useless. I strongly suggest you upgrade -- and not only for this reason...

But it will always say "King of Lithuania and Poland", as the titles are listed alphabetically. It's just, when you click on your country screen, it should now say "King of Poland", instead of "King of Lithuania".

You did it right and you got the right results.

I'm a newbie to the game, I've been playing the EU series addictivly since it was released (I'm actually quite confident that I'm withing the forst few people that got the damn game, just that I've never posted before because I used to have a life..used it the key word here. Anyways, will I need a clean restart of my game with the upgrade or can I simply apply the patch to my present game and keep on trucking?
