Changing Alliance leader???

anyone know how to change the alliance leader in an ongoing game..

I'm playing US, and have gotten sick of the UK calling all the alliance shots...

I've defeated Germany in early 1943 and want to form a NATO type alliance and take on the USSR next but I can't do that with the UK as the leader.

AFAIK you could ask countries to join an alliance, which would make you an alliance leader...perhaps I am wrong? In the case of this if it is corect though, you could leave your UK alliance then start inviting countries to be your ally.
