Hi, i've just started tweaking with my HOI files. My intention was to buff up a load of countries, particularly in the med, africa and ME then release the countries and (hopefully) have an interesting game experience. Problem is that all of the nations I had released only seem to be building infantry. I heard this is something to do with puppet AI but not sure what thats all about =/

Is there any way to stop countries I release from having *puppet* AI? Is there a way I could maybe swap the puppet AI with Germany or SU or something so they build a greater variety of units? Some of the countries i'm releasing include Egypt, Libya, Jordan etc. Do these countries have their own AI files to start with or do they just use a default puppet AI?

Will appreciate any feedback, thanks

They use minor_default.ai by default, but you can give them country-specific AIs by defining files such as egy_1936.ai etc.

Ok thanks. Some more questions now :D

If I were to create an AI file for Egy_1936 how would I then get the game to recognise it?

I see in the AI folder countries have 1936-1939-1941 AI etc does this mean that say, in 1939 the countries AI will switch from its 1936 AI to the 1939 AI?

No, those are for scenarios starting in that year.

The AI file chosen on release will be the most recent for that country.
So if you have an EGY_1936, EGY_1939, and EGY_1941 and release Egypt in 1940, they will choose the EGY_1939 as their starting AI file.

If you have the
Code:
switch = no # [yes/no]
(usually the first line of the ai file) set to yes, then in 1941 they will switch to the EGY_1941 file. All of the "Vanilla" ai files have this set to no, so they won't switch to newer ai files automatically, but instead use ai only events to switch ais.
