After my latest AAR I plan to start one as Germany. I think everybody tries this sooner or later. But i picture a slightly different alternate history and feel that many events between 1933 to 1936 either were different or never happened. The end result would be a slightly different Germany in terms of tech, IC , and MP. Slightly stronger but not SUPER powerful.

How do I change that without crashing the game? And also I don't want to get too gamey. I want to be realistic about the changes - so I want changes but not overwhelming changes.

For example, I know the German Air Force, before Hitler came to power, WAS working on Heavy Bomber design - but the man pushing for it died in a airplane accident and the idea was allowed to die by the time Hitler got elected.

If he had not died then the Germany in the game should start out with the some Heavy Bomber related tech AND a few wings of first level Heavy Bombers, at the least.

This is only one change I am thinking about trying out.

I have HoI3 +TFH.

Any help welcome, thank you!

Germany already starts (in vanilla TFH) with basic_strategic_bomber already researched and unlocked, so it can build an early Strategic Bomber from January 1, 1936. Are you interested in giving it essentially 2nd generation bomber techs and/or strategic bomber doctrines? The first levels of those techs are 1939 techs -- not even England has any of those.

In any event, to modify a country's starting techs, you just need to edit that country's file in [path]:\Hearts of Iron 3\tfh\history\countries\ to add the relevant tech and level of research.

If you want to give Germany a few starting strategic bombers, you can mimic the relevant entry in the UK's 1936 OOB file:
Code:
air = {
    name = "RAF Strategic Bomber Command"
    base = 1731 [insert a German province ID where there is an air base, of course]
    location = 1731
    wing = { type = strategic_bomber name = "No.2 RAF Strategic Group" historical_model = 0 }
    wing = { type = strategic_bomber name = "No.3 RAF Strategic Group" historical_model = 0 }
    wing = { type = strategic_bomber name = "No.4 RAF Strategic Group" historical_model = 0 }
}

All country OOB files are found in [path]:\Hearts of Iron 3\tfh\history\units.

Thank you very much. Sorry about the confusion - I was confusing real history with the Game's tech as I have only played Germany once (and that was with the AI in charge of the military).
