Is it just me or is it weird that changing to a different government form in the matter of a second with no repercussions or events? Like say I'm playing an oligarchy and because I can switch to a democracy I just choose it after the ten year limit is up, nothing really happens event wise.

That's just kinda weird. No revolts happen because of a sudden government change, people just kinda accept it and move on and no one questions a thing. Sure, if you were an absolute autocrat I imagine it could have little effect but other elite members of an oligarchy would have some things to say. I think this should be changed to have more flavor attached to it and to kinda be a thing that takes months to change.

Influence is highly abstracted, but I think it's meant to represent (among other things) the sociatal costs of major actions. Since changing governments requires a decent chunk of influence, I think that's at least an acknowledgment that it is an upheaval, even if the game (for whatever reason) doesn't simulate it more explicitly.
