I don't understand this much at all. Paradox is being very confusing about all this. I don't know what to think right now. Guess I wont find out for another 6 hrs.

If May 25 was truly a placeholder then there is still hope my totally fake prediction for the Tuesday, May 24th release of Stellaris might still be (accidentally) true!
As a mathematical genius, I, the most knowledgeable of those who own Rutters that are Stolen, shall predict the actual release date before the re-leasers of the releasable product!Numbers don't lie, folks.j/k
Let's do some math, February 2016 release is false, Late 2016 release is speculation, game announced in August after going alpha. Using Google, I found a wikipedia page on "video game development", it states "alpha occurs eight to ten months before code release, but this can vary significantly...". So from wiki, we have May to June, from steam making a date up so their form doesn't kick back an error code, we have "February", from PC World speculating we have "late".
However, this being a "completely made up" calculation, we need more precision than that.
-Rolling a 1d4 to pick a week for Feb, we get a 2, which means I choose February 14th (end of the second week).
-Rolling a 1d4 to identify a day in May, we get another 2, from which I pick mother's day (2nd Sunday of the month), cause I love my mom (May 8).
-Repeating for June, I rolled a three. Going about three weeks into the month, I see the full moon is June 20th, so there we are.
-"Late" in calendar speak is typically thought of as fourth fiscal quarter, Oct-Nov-Dec. So to be arbitrary, I will simply bisect this time period and pick November 15th.
Ok, we have four days. I can assign a weighted average of time from today. I will double weight the two middle days.
Feb 14 is 80 days from now.
May 8 is 164 days.
June 20 is 207 days.
Nov 15th is 366 days.
Calculated release date is 181 days from today.

How is Paradox confusing? All they said is: Tonight there is a press conference with info. All other stuff comes from forum-users. They think they have found stuff etc. Paradox has always been clear. We will officially anounce something when we know it. Till then there statement is: Its done when its done.
They announced a press conference for tonight. So lets await that. Nothing confusing about it. The only people making it confusing are here on the forum, making assumptions, claiming to have found the date etc and reading to much into it, with no confirmation from Paradox what so ever.

You don't want to release in June..because Warhammer is at the end of the month. Meaning its going to take up a lot of traffic for around a month. Meaning your game will get smothered. You don't want to release within the same timeframe because that means you are going to be competing with another company in a variety of statistics.
April however leaves the door wide open. A giant window of free lebensraum. No pesky Soviets (Cough Cough CA) around to ruin your plans.
What I'm guessing is they will try to make a big push to finish the game and release it before it conflicts with it(Warhammer)..or we might be waiting tell mid june

They're confusing because if you actually researched into this like I have, the evidence in favour of the may 25th date is very convincing. On the other hand, Paradox says no, but this could easily be a "cover up" due to the fact the release date is most likely being announced tonight, and they want it to be a surprise of sorts(obviously)

The release date may not be 25 May but the game will be released soon otherwise you don't say what Podcat said.
It's hard to tell. I think why he said that is because I've seen devs mention Warhammer multiple times. I think its on their radar and the recent delay has disrupted them a bit and now they are most likely deciding if they want to stick to the date. That makes most sense to me. And that would explain why the date is simply a place holder.
I personally think they'd crush Warhammer into pixy dust. The fanbase is extremely disheartened with the series and if I owned the company I'd set it as the 24th (Same day as Warhammer) simply to say we are the big kids on the block now. Watch out.
My own fantasy aside. It seems likely they may shoot for a earlier release or postpone longer. The general consensus of the player base seems to say it looks ready. That's what important. Meaning a huge check should be off..the question is can they bug squish and stabilize the game by whenever the date is set? I think so. Every issue seemed so simple and minor to myself.
I doubt that Paradox is as evil to simply lie to us.(This an't EA) I buy what he said. I think its a lack of knowledge about the inner works that are causing any confusion. For example WWW is at a slower pace apparently and single player..that makes me think they might try and plan for June as a release date..that's starting to seem possible as it'd line up with WWW. Why would you just let it be running while the games out? So we might be in for a wait..however I bet a beta round might be announced.
ALL conspiracy ASIDE. I bet it's being released April 1st.
