The following changes, aside from the first, will be posted in replies so that people can agree/disagree with each one individually.

The English Civil War
For four years, the English Commonwealth was a republic, I feel that this could be represented by first modifying the starting event. Instead of becoming a republican dictatorship, you'd become a constitutional republic.

End of the English Civil War
When the civil war is over, if you choose the parliamentarians, you'd have an event that either allows you to stay a republic (and gain one stability?) or to become a dictatorship.

EDIT: Instead of being immediately after the civil war, it should be an event with an MTTH of four years (the English Commonwealth lasted four years till the rump parliament was dissolved).

Self-denying Ordinance and New Model Army
An option should be added to allow the player to permanently maintain the NMA instead of just keeping it for ten years. They would receive a stability hit, but it would be very beneficial.

End of the English Civil War
If you win the civil war as the parliamentarians, you should had the option to try to spread the new republic to the rest of the world (early revolution).

This would of course be an ahistorical option that would probably be more fun than realistic.

Treaty of Newport
The treaty of Newport was a failed treaty that tried to end the civil war. The goal would be to allow King Charles I back into power, but with limited authority. It eventually failed when military radicals grew impatient.
The options for the event that I would suggest would be:

1: Pass the Treaty
  • Change to Constitutional Monarchy with Charles I as the ruler.
  • If Parliamentarian:
    • Revolutionary rebels in a province. (Military Radicals). *
    • Current rebels disband.
  • +1 Stability.
  • -50 legitimacy (If passed it would reduce his authority).
  • If Royalist:
    • Half the rebels disband.
  • The civil war disasters ends.
2: Refuse the Treaty

  • If Royalist:
    • +10 or 20 (whichever would be more balanced) Legitimacy
  • +25 Prestige.
  • If Parliamentarian:
    • +10 Republican Tradition.

*Admittedly, I'm not too familiar with how rebels size works, but I'd recommend it to be quite large. Perhaps either equal to your military size or your military will split 50|50 between rebels and your own soldiers.
