I think Kiva said she lowered Leopard upkeep (the loan) to match the rise in mech upkeep to keep the early game the same for players, while still adding to the economic challenge of the game once you get the Argo. From the screenshots, looks like the loan dropped 30k, while mechs went up 6k/each, so to 24k with the starting four.

She also said she upp'd the Argo upkeep fees just a bit. Will be interesting to see how much that got tweaked.
I had not really given it much thought yet, but I do like the changes to the EconSIM relative to Leopard/ARGO costs, it makes sense. : )

Using the tech manual available at [Mod edit: Link to copyrighted material removed] sections starting at page 174 and page 274, plus the Leopard dropship page at Sarna, I come up with a cost for a Leopard of around 110 million C. Seems reasonable, about the cost of 10 assault mechs.

70K/month interest on 110M represents 0.0636%, or ~ 0.7% APR. Can I please get a mortgage from these loan sharks? They seem to be undercharging by a factor of 20 or so.

Note I'm not arguing for 1.4M / month interest payments, but as is, confiscating the Hysteria for defaulting on whatever loan has only a 70K monthly payment seems a bit like some bank taking my house over failure to pay the cable TV bill.

Maybe it's just a line of credit with the Hysteria as collateral :)

We do not know how long the loan has been open. If the loan was taken several years before Commander Markum’s death, that could also affect the rates. Like the bank lowering the payments to keep you on the hook longer.

If ship prices fluctuated in a way that made repossessing the Hysteria come out as a serious loss against the remaining debt, I could see them extending and relaxing the terms - if they were confident that payment would eventually be made.

Agreed. I am thinking our intrepid Band of Mercenaries needed to recapitalize their operation some point in the three years between the Solo-Campaign start and where we pick up with them again.

So yes, it isn't that they just purchased a Leopard Dropship (they had the Leopard to start with IIRC) instead the Leopard is the collateral that hangs in the balance each and every month.

Just because it is the 3025 Rimward Periphery doesn't mean the Bank won't come and smash your dreams! : (

So if the same happens to argo upkeep prices, we could be looking at eventually 600+k a month in expenses if we keep our mechs completely clean for that month, buy nothing new or buy another upgrade. While higher contracts give more, once we are seeing full armored heavy lances + other things I doubt most missions we will be coming back clean.

I was wondering...
Since we're still keeping the Leopard after we get the Argo, to ferry our mechwarriors to the surface and back...
Can anyone recall from the earlier streams, if there was a position on the monthly financial report for the upkeep/maintenance of the Leopard?

I think the Line in the Report is replaced with the Line of the Argo Upkeep/Maintenance Cost. But i could be wrong there.

So, it's included in the Argo's upkeep?

To be clear... I'm totally fine with that explanation!

Unlikely, in the last SideStrafe streams that i've watched where he had elite pilots, heavy mechs, most(?) agro upgrades and two full mechbays(so late game) his expenses were about 330k (and they increased mainly due to pilot salaries). Probably would be more like 400k with the changed system (since Agro upkeep increased only a little), assuming he would have kept 12 mechs active at all times.
