So I tried Emperor today and went for a Frisia to Netherland run, I like the changes made to the Netherland and Dutch minor mission tree, but for two big irritants:
-The 3rd mission on the left path force you to join the counter-reformation, it's kind of annoying since historically, one of the reason the Netherlands formed is that they were largely protestant in opposition to their Spanish overlord. If one thing, the mission should ask us to join the reformation.
-The Mission to control the trade in the Lubeck node should be about controlling the trade in the English channel. All of the exploration and colonisation path is locked behind conquest to the east in the HRE or at least forcing a lot of nation to transfer their trade. It's doable, but counter-intuitive.

It's also very sad that we don't have anything about developing the local economy and that the few fleet related mission only give a temporary modifier or an admiral.

It says to rather join the counter-reformation or join the reformation

Agreed on this one, Netherlands should be focused on securing the southern Dutch land and increasing their power in the Channel, securing trade in Lubeck should be a mission for after securing the Channel

I think you misunderstand the historical chronological order and importance of the Baltic trade before anything else. The Baltics trade was always the first and foremost important thing that fueled the Dutch economy.

It's also very sad that we don't have anything about developing the local economy and that the few fleet related mission only give a temporary modifier or an admiral.
Completely agree. The Netherlands is probably the most fleshed out nation that would fare well with a tall playstyle. Just like real life.
  • Maybe a few special Burgher privileges as the cities historically contributed a lot to the local development and wealth. Just as Poland for example has special Szlachta privileges.
  • A follow up on the Lubeck trade mission to expand even further towards Russia, Livonia etc.
  • Something about the Wool trade with England and Scotland
  • Expansion and growth of multiple cities like Amsterdam, Dordrecht and other smaller ones
Some some ideas that can be expanded upon.

The problem with the dutch missions are the rewards and progression.

Its very nice to have the baltic trade mission, but it gives an explorer, instead of a more logical thing like claims in the baltic sea. The missions after also have nothing to do with the dutch baltic trade.

Compare this to the mission to gain trade power in the channel which gives you a personal union on GB.

Its all a little smashed together with no sense of progression.

I think the general idea of first focusing on the Baltic trade to finance colonial expansion is fine, but it should be much lower than 33%; because that essentially forces you to get involved through conquest etc. too much. It should be something reachable with trade ships and maybe a trade war alone. 20% maybe? 15?

From personal experience, by the end of the discovery age, you should be easily able to get 10-15%, beyond that it require some work. As Holland it is easier since you start with naval capacity in your traditions.

I think the Baltic trade focus should be in a more trade/economy branch for the mission.

If its to represent history it should be higher than 33% to be honest. Also this is easily done by having about 50 light ships in the trade node as I did it last game. It is really not that hard.

Yes, historically it should be higher and it is doable with about 50 trade ships. But as Holland, you might have colonies sooner than 50 trade ships, so I think as a mission to get the colonial game started it should be somewhat easier, even if it is ahistorical.
