In e.g. Vic2 and EU4 you'll be prevented from switching to an unplayable tag if you accidentally get a tag ID wrong. CK2 character IDs are way more complicated and open to typos and yet you won't be saved from a "game over" if you get a single number wrong and accidentally switch to an unplayable character like a courtier, baron, theocracy etc.
It's especially annoying for me because I like to switch around the map and tweak things to my taste before unpausing, and I can't tell you how many saves I've ended up giving up on because I accidentally got a character ID wrong and lost a lot of the changes I'd made because there's no way around the game over screen, even if you go into observer mode, with the alternative being to spend hours retracing my steps through the console log. It's just an incredibly frustrating thing to have happen. Please fix it already.
