Hi,
iam wondering if it is possible to change the culture of a region?
Does it help to change the ruler culture (with the ruler designer) or does his culture has no effect on the region (at least capital region) culture?
But in some games i noticed that cultures can change but i did not think about the mechanic behind it until now.

I don't know the specifics behind it, but culture can spread from one area to another.

Having a ruler with high stewardship increases the likelyhood of it happening. (if i remember correctly, you need a province of the correct culture adjacent to the one you want swapped, and your ruler has to be of that culture).

If the county has a different culture, you get a small increase in revolt risk and most of the characters born there (especially Bishops and CIty Holders will have the counties culture, which decreases your relations) and this may lower your income.

Yes i know this, but i want a way to change a provinces culture to the rulers (at least province counts) culture. Because spreading from adjacent provinces is not possible in my situation.
But what you both say is it is not possible that a province culture change only because of the rulers culture?

btw: i know that it is possible that new borns get the province culture as their personal culture, but that is not what i mean.

There is an event that changes the county to the culture of the Ruler. The chance of it happening depends upon the stewardship of the holder (and is actually very low with bad stewardship and will thus most likely not happen at all). I do not know if you need an adjacent county with the "right" culture, but I've never seen a non adjacent county flip in any of my games, so I guess you really need a bordering province with the culture of your ruler.

If you hand out provinces to rulers of your culture they will also have a chance to become your culture if those rulers have high stewardship. Ruling over lots of different cultured vassals will result in very slow culture change, and possibly culture change away from your own culture.

I can confirm that you do not need an adjacent province of your culture in order to convert another. I began a game as the independent Duke of Cyprus in 1187 and used the designer to make him Occitan. I eventually ended up recapturing Antioch from the Ayyubids in a holy war and relocated my capital there. Within a few years all three counties of the Duchy of Antioch had embraced Occitan culture even though all 5 of my provinces were Greek in culture. It should be noted that my character had at least a 20 stewardship.

I'm not sure if Tangier is adjacent to Gibraltar in game but I managed to pretty much make all of Iberia Egyptian (it took around a hundred years) simply by replacing all nobility with Egyptian nobles.

It is possible to change the culture of an isolated county using the settler event, it can only fires in the capital of the ruler.
The event only fires if the highest rulers title is associated with the same culture (Dutch for Frisia) or the Title has been actively conquered by that culture.
I have been able to get Dutch to spread in England after I placed my capital in Kent as King of Frisia and Portuguese in Jerusalem after I won the crusade as a Portuguese duke (later king of Jerusalem). Vassals can only have it fire if the are the same culture as their liege.
