Change Province Picture - how?

Hi!

I'd like to change the pictures of some provinces, but I can't seem to find where they are saved.

Is it possible to just replace them as with leader or minister skins?

yes. they're located in the gfx/interface folder (ill_prov_#). unfortunately i don't know which #'s represent which provinces. but you can change the landscape pictures (ill_prov_forest, ill_prov_hills, etc...) fairly easy.

The only provinces that can have SPECIFIC pictures are those that have Urban as their terrain type. Some capitals (Paris) were not given that terrain type because historically they were "Open Cities" and combat did not take place in the cities themselves (for the most part).

So I need to change them to urban and then give them a picture if I am following what you saying?

Correct. Just be careful, because it will change the "balance" of the game because of the modifiers to combat in urban terrain.

Uhm, if I get this right, provinces with landscape pictures DO HAVE to be changed to urban to give them a seperate picture, or can I just put a picture in gfx/interface folder and rename it ill_prov_#, where # is the province number from db?

Yes, terrain has to be changed to "urban" to enable custom pictures

along with the change of the terrain to urban...

which changes the combat modifiers for the particular province, the AI also has a tendency to try to protect the urban provinces... so it could adjust the mileage of your game
