I don't know if you're still working on development of the game, but this problem is even present with the original DH pics you implemented.
As I have been working a lot with province pics, an issue has come with a high frequency.
Not always you can find a good pic that saves enough space for the province name, or that the vp score spoils a good sight.
I think with these pics you can get the idea.
I also consider the little flag redundant as you see a bigger one in the lower part of the screen with the political leaders, but I know it shows occupied provinces. Maybe transfering this to the big flag could be agood option.
