Change in species generation

Has something changed in the alien species generation with the latest patch?

So far in 4 out of 5 of my last games, I've met a species with the same portrait within the first 20 years, which is incredibly jarring.


One of them even had the same name, but was classed as a separate species.


Such a thing would be cool if it was acknowledged in any way. Like how it would be cool if the united nations of Earth didn't greet the Commonwealth of man by calling them xeno scum.

Actually, I've run into this issue as well.
In all of my games, I had a specific Mammalian picture show up 2, or once even THREE, times across the playthrough.
And that on Medium galaxy size with plantoid pack. I would wager there should be enough unique species portraits for that size.

It's not new. Happens to me all the time. About half my games I run into a species using my portrait. Sometimes I find empires using the same flag emblem too. They really need to fix this. It's really immersion breaking.

It would be really awesome if this was tied into the game more.

Like the possibility of meeting your species half way across the galaxy. Which leads to a series of events and internal reflection.

It is indeed slightly jarring when you see the same portrait used, same for colors/symbol especially with the huge amount to choose from it just shouldn't happen.

In my first utopia run my neighbour had the exact same colors and symbol, was a massive annoyance trying to differ the borders (needless to say they were my first target), not to mention the hyperlanes being nearly impossible to see with certain colors.
