There are many examples of both champions and trial by combat in history, however this isn't really represented in the game.

The "Champion" title already exist for some religions, but I would like to see it for most (if not all). Also when challenged to a duel you should get the option to "send your champion in your place" (maybe with some exceptions).

Champions could also be used in single combat to resolve wars, although this might have been more common in legends and mythology like The Iliad and David and Goliath, than in real history. They could also join their lords in military campaigns, aiding in dangerous situations.

If someone is trying to arrest or spread rumors about you, you should be able to challenge them in trial by combat. This was a common practice in Germanic (as well as others) society until it was restricted by law (so I guess it could be a new law option in-game).
