So, I'm loving 2.2, crippling bugs aside, but the AI has really tanked. I've cranked up my difficulties as high as they can go, I used to be a Commodore player now I'm on GA and I honestly am only ever in danger in the first war I ever fight. A war in the first 30 years or so will be a very dangerous desperate defence against a much more powerful opponent, but by the time that truce is over, I can beat them easily, and by the time the next truce is over, everyone in the galaxy is inferior. Whats going on? I mean, part of it is obviously that the AI isn't understanding the new economy, economy is always my biggest advantage by the games calc, but they also don't develop their military. I'm in 2450, my fleets are up to 30K+, and only two or three of the mightiest AI empires can muster a fleet of 10K, and then, only the one. I'm honestly flabbergasted by it, they don't have small fleets and the game says their tech level is equivalent to mine, so how on earth are their 20 corvettes 2K when my 20 corvettes are 10K? Even the sense of challenge and opposition posed by the AI is totally evaporated. Only influence for claims limits my expansion, I DOW without worrying about massive alliance blocs or even federations, their fleets just barely exist, no challenge is offered.

EDIT: For reference, I've never completed a campaign before, Stellaris is my least-played PDox GSG, I just broke 900 hours and have never considered myself particularly good at it. Before 2.2 I lost in midgame fairly often. Now I can't even imagine a circumstance where that could happen. I could lose in the first 50 years (only if I face a DS, FP, DE) or against the Crisis, anything else is laughable.

I'm on 2.2.3 but the "districtless planets" on the beta is pretty killer for me.

Glavius looks great but I love those achieves. I'll fire it up once I finish a campaign I'm pretty sure.

I haven't played since 2.2.4 was released, but I believe this was fixed when they updated 2.2.4 on monday. Just try it. In the worst case you rollback to the stable branch.

2.2.4 beta also increases the competence of the AI by quite a bit, as well as making the game run faster than it ever has for me before, even pre-2.2. Highly recommended, especially since they hotfixed some of the new bugs they managed to introduce...
