Just so you know, it's not the time to beat. Its 1 march 1473

No need to remind him. Or me. Or yourself. Let's just all agree that 1975 looks better :0

If anyone has pointers for me what to do with Mamluks. I'm 100% incompetent. Every time I touch them I'm only getting stab hits and dead rulers.
Are Mamluks really as easy as a7777777com says? Anyone got a time comparable to his?

I'm not joking btw, all my Mammal attempts ended with a dead run. Not me being to slow or thinking I won't get it but full blown selfkills.

During my run I got an idea that you didn't need tech 7. You just need lots of admin to boost stab after all the no cbs haha

dip 7 is about a decade too late. Even if I go for max penalty I still can't finish before 1977.

Maybe someone gets it faster, but there's definitely a limit and Mister7 is already below that.

Well after wasting my whole half of my day, all I can say Mamlucks start is really a gamble. It's either pray that your current ruler dies fast without a heir and get a good stat pretender, but will eat low legitmacy. Or pray you get a (good) heir fast and the current ruler don't die fast.

Currently I got only bad luck. In my last try I was making good progress, then suddenly got an heir and next month the ruler died. Had a 15 year regency with a 0/0/0. /sigh. Well the positive side, Ottoman never attacked me.

.

So basically my run goes like this, attack Yemen, take coast, can't take island yet. Attack fezan take sirt and the Tunis province closest to Iberia. Tech up etc, fabricate on Yemen again, and Cyprus and its worth fabricating on tlemcen to incase you get a good opportunity.

Now once you start exploring it becomes the vassal core game in west Africa, attack Maldives when you have range, from Socotra (whatever the Yemen island is) you shouldn't need tech 7. Attack pasai after you core Maldives you should have range.

Basically for America go no cb Brazilian minors, Colombian minors Aztec minors.

It is partially luck based because the starting monarch is crap and if you get a crap heir your pretty screwed. There's is an event if you get a regency.

Yes, no CB is the key that tech 5 is enough. But I just need 1 no CB war in my Mamluks run.

No need to remind him. Or me. Or yourself. Let's just all agree that 1975 looks better :0

Mamluks is not easy, it is harder than Ottomans, but also faster. Because its position is the best and needs least wars to get ready for the colonies.

Well after wasting my whole half of my day, all I can say Mamlucks start is really a gamble. It's either pray that your current ruler dies fast without a heir and get a good stat pretender, but will eat low legitmacy. Or pray you get a (good) heir fast and the current ruler don't die fast.

As Mamluks, you need some luck that your current ruler must die without a heir. Make him a general and pray for his death. If you are not lucky, a few S&Ls may help.

Well you don't need coring all the way to Oceania.
A hint: You can move your capital to Asia easily, and that is the reason why Mamluks better than Ottomans.

Holy fuck that's genius.

... because when you want to core something you can do it without a direct connection as long as it's connected to a vassal and on your home continent

You don't care about coring range. Just nocb a random nation, forcevassalize and annex their neighbour.

Granted I sat out for a few patches, but if that's still how it works then I'm really tempted to fire up another round.

New world isn't the issue for Ottomans either. Earliest I got there was 1456. That should be on par with Mamluks.

If it really works like I remember I should be able to pull it off with Ottos.

Could save me half a decade.

I couldn't resist and tried a run :) As Ottomans - 1 April 1469. Unlike Mamluks that require serious luck to make a fast run, Ottomans game is largely in the player's hands. I've made some dumb mistakes, reasonably good players should be able to get something around 1465-1466.

There are few important things - do not take "make Constantinople capital" decision early and don't loot merchant guild for DIP before ADM-5.

I took Constantinople (mission, just Constantinople and humiliate) - mostly to get conquer Levant mission and get some PP (here I think it's better to sit on OE for a while). Then I attacked Mamluks to take western-most Africa province and something coastal in Asia, by the time I won that war I had spy network set up in Tunis, so I've claimed and DoW Tunis to get Kabylia. I was fabricating on both Morocco and Tlemcen, by the time I was ready to claim only Morocco survived.

After finishing war with Tunis I've moved capital in Asia (to the province I took from Mamluks), which was almost 400ADM because I took Constantinople decision :(, no CB'd Madurai and sent army to India (by land), vassalized Madurai and used their core/claims to take couple of provinces from VIJ to make a corridor to Ceylon and then take the eastern-most province from Ceylon

Then back to Europe - took Tangiers from Morocco, fabricated on Portugal, DoW Portugal(+Castille+England). Finally I got ADM-5 and 3 exploration ideas so I could take Azores and send a colonist to Christmas island (here I made another mistake - I should have moved capital to Ceylon before doing that). When Azores cored I've send a colonist to Caribbean (after moving capital to Azores). For South America I got coastal tribe, but even without that the colony would have worked too.

Take 2, 1st Feb 1484 its an interesting one, it was a good run with a decent heir early on. thing is if you take the trade off of throwing out some no cb wars, and vassalizing some people and moving your captial it can probably be done a lot earlier.

BUT the ottomans can throw their weight around a lot easier and start with a god king, so its interesting to see who can do it faster.

things that went wrong in this run, No renaissance, lots of harsh treatment and rebels, and the columbian natives didnt migrate to the coast, meaning I had to colonize trinidad to get north american province.

Ill prob give it one more go tonight later on see how i get on can defo be done faster.

was a bit fed up with Mamluk's king roulette and try ottoman again. 2 July 1478. It would be ~2 years faster if arawak didn't decide it's nice it migrate to inland :x

Since finishing times are so short I was able to squeeze a Ming attempt in. Being able to hire level 3 advisors and getting monarch points from tributaries help to mitigate your bad starting ruler and you also get cheaper admin tech and idea costs. Attacked Oirat -> Uzbek -> Nogai for a European province. No-CB on Kochin to force vassalize them and take Venad to expand coring range. After unlocking Exploration ideas No-CB on Ainu -> colonize Aleuts and No-CB Makassar -> colonize Vogelkop. I also started to colonize Mahe in Africa and took some provinces there with No-CBs (who needs admin points anyway after tech 5 :D ) to get around the Cape. But by then it was already 1470 so I abandoned the attempt

Question: is it legal to release a nation and play as them? I ask because Persia would be in a similar position as the Mamluks (already on the Indian ocean, but with easy access to European provinces) without necessarily having to deal with the starting ruler situation.

If it is allowed, I assume that there would be some restrictions, of course, such as "no disintegrating the overlord before releasing the vassal you'll actually play as".

If it isn't allowed...how terrible an idea would Qara Qoyunlu be? I honestly have zero familiarity with playing hordes in general and QQ in particular, they just seem well-placed geographically.

I also want to try Ming, but after looking at the range and stuff, you can't get to South America in a decent time
You see Hejaz and Mamluks usually allies someone in Arabia. You could declare on Hejaz, vassalize Najd, take stuff from hejaz up to lebanon, release them and core around -> reached the mediteranian in one war.

You need to have one core on each continent. If you feel like playing as released makes it easier, go for it.
