The war with Persia cought the Khanate unexpected, the only sizeable army in the region was the Cannons of Astrakhan, and they were in no shape to fight the Persian onslught. The Chagatai Horde were quickly marshalled and departed from Indus for the Persian capitol. The Cannons of Astrakhan were recalled to Samarakhand for reinforcements, while the northern army was putting down rebellions in the new Khazak lands. Abbas I the persian king, and his two skillfull generals,Qarchaqay Bei and Emir Guna Beg, set forth at once, Beg took Daghistan while Abbas took Khorosan and then departed to drive the Chagatai Horde from his capital. Bei stayed in Persia for most of the war chasing the Horde as it ravaged the country side. Soon Bijand and Kara Kum fell to Abbas. Troops were being recruited when an assassin attempted to take the life of Muhammad, missing his mark he hit a noble advisor instead, it was enuf to make some nobles question their comitments and soon some in Samara began secreate talks with Russia to bring them under their dominion. When these talks were found out the participants were sumarily exicuted and their bodys unsaremoniously dumped on the Russian side of the Volga.

The war continued badly as Abbas, reinfoced by Beg from Daghistan and their allies The Hedjaz and Mamluks began an attack on the Chagatai sub-continent holdings. the Chagatai Horde was still rampaging around the Persian province of Lut when they spoted theses armys, their commander quickly sent word of the onslaught that awaited, and when the Persian diplomat demanded the paltry sum of 75 ducats and military acces to Chagatai lands Muhammad accepted knowing he would soon lose much more. And so the Persian war ended, the horde returned to normal, with a few more rebellious nobles and peasants then before.

Wanting to turn the countrys attention from the recent stunning defeat Muhammad cobled togeather another expition to the wilderness, though the panic over the Chinese arrival had long since subsided the heroics of the Wilderness force was a welcome boost to the countrys ego. But Muhammad was getting old, it was time to think about and heir.

You are just going to have to bite the bullet and build some infantry. You need it. The fortresses are going to be too difficult to take with just cavalry soon.

What's your land tech now?

After the war with Persia the Khanate was very unstable. Revolts were common place, some even crossing the border from China. Dispite the constant revolts the empire expanded, the wilderness was explored further and further and new citys were established. Gujarat had been a thorn in the Chagatais side for some time, for even though vassels to the Khanate they continued to embargo its traders from Kutch, enfuriated Muhammad went into a fit, ordering the annexation of Gujarat. This fit proved fatal as Muhammad died of a heart attack soon after. His son, Sultan Ahmad Khan carried out his fathers wishes and forced Gujarat to join, rather forcefully.

The empire continued to shake, rebellions poped up for one reason or another, and thousands of good soldiers died, thousands more were recruited to replace them and Ahmad estrablished a border force of ten-thousand men to prevent rebles from China for crossing into Chagatai lands. The economic strain was terrible and the Chagatai struggled to pay of loans. Under such stress Amhad crumbled, he disappeard for months at a time on hunts, royal trips, and tours of the empire, paying little attention to the actual running of his vast enheritence.

Ten years passed, Ahmad had recoverd, and had actualy managed to end a fued that had plagued the empire. Things seemed to be returning to normal, but very slowly.

The empire was still plagued by rebles, though they were subsiding, they were taking their time. Incursions from China were halted and the new eastern force could be sent to the west to aid in dealing with rebles in the Georgian mountines. It was at this time that the Ottoman Turks advanced to the Chagatai border. Ahmad saw an oprotunity, a potential allie against the Persians. He quickly cobbled togeather a confernce with the Sultan on the issue of their new accuisition of Georgia, for the sake of improving relations with their potential allie Ahmad settled the border dispute much in the Turks favor.

He then set about expanding the ranks of the Chagatai, new regiments of Cavalry were marshalled, and a regiment of Infantry to join the Cannons of Astrakhans defense force. All around Ahmad was consolidating his fathers gains. In the wilderness he expanded the empires outposts to provide a route for newly discoverd gold.

On the western border Russia was gorwing, annexing Moldavia, and with it a Mongol land. This was unacceptable, and war was declared soon after. Russia was tied down in the Balkans in a war with Hungary against Sienburgen and the Chagatai took full advantage of this distraction. Crimea was quickly put under seige and expiditions into the Russian planes were arranged. As Crimea fell Russian towns were put to the torch, Russian recruits to the sword. The Chagatai Horsemen advanced as far as Belgrod before being recalled to put down yet more rebellions in the Georgian lands. Jedisan was put under seige when the Czan refused to cede Crimea to its rightful owner.

The Sienburgen war ended and this freed up thousands of men for the Russians, which were quickly recalled to lift the seige of Jedisan, but to no avail, the city fell and the Czar was persuaded to reliquish Crimea.

The last war of Mongol Unity had ended, and the empire needed stronger allies if it were to survive in its present bloated form. Sibir was brought closer to vasselization, and gifts were en route to Instanbul.

Nice...Very nice! Caught the Russians busy and captured a find prize. Now if only you could get your land tech a bit higher. Sooner or later your low land tech is going to hurt a lot with your low manpower pool.

How far to the right do you have your stability slider? Perhaps you should consider moving it a bit to the right and increase the funds into supporting stability. I have mine in my Sweden game about a third of the way over to the right to keep my stability at a decent level,(which is 1, closing back in on 2).

Ahmads relations improving expiditionswith the Turks blew right back in his face. The Ottomans were quite happy to try to stip the Chagatai of their European possesions. They saw their chance when the Khanate was embroiled in another war with Russia. The war was going in the Chagatais favor, but this new threat to the south complicated things, Ahmad had to go on the defensive against both the Turks and Russia, or attack one while refusing the other. He chose to prosecute the war with Russia to its end, leaving the Turks to wander around Daghstan. After besiging Scochi, and threatening Astrakhan Ahmad had enuf, he bought the Turks off cedeing Daghstan to them. The war with Russia soon ended and they paid the Chagatai 107 ducats for a return to noramlity.

The wars had taken their toll, all accross the empire Rebles were showing their face, in the south the Afghans started and indipendace movement, the west the Crimeans drempt of their lost freedom as well, even in the heartland of the empire the Mongols were openly rebelling against their Khan. They brought about Ahmads demise, forcing to abdicate, placing his son Abd Allah Khan on the throne. Abd set to work quickly and the Mongols rallied behind him, tens of thousands joined the army, and the empire rejoiced at the birth of an heir to Abd. The rebles were quashed, again and again. Normality was again returning when the Turks reared their heads again.

The war quickly devolved into a sluging match accross the Caucuses, the empire was falling apart and this drawn out war wasnt helping. Abd sued for peace and Turk accepted the status quo. ANd so it went, reble after reble put to the sword, province after province returned to the fold and the Chagatai reigned supreame. Soon Sibir was vasselized and an perminated route to new gold mines in the furthest reaches of the Wilderness was established further strenghting Abds postion. The empire was at the furthest extent it had ever been, the loss of Daghstan was quickly compensated by expansion in the Wilderness. And soon every Mongol in the world would be under Chagatai leadership.

This will be the last update, i have pushed them to their furthest, with 4 large empires on my border it is a challenge to just keep the status quo. I get in one war and another pops up on the opposite end of the empire. I belive I accoplished most of my goals, though in hind sight i might have chose the wrong direction to expand into first.:(

In the fallowing years and decades little changed, Sibir was annex the wilderness was conquered to the Pacific, and the Chinese were finally found. The empire sliped into a period of decline, losing its southern possesions to the new Afghan state. The Persians forced the Chagatai to repatriate its citizens in Khorosan and Bijand, while several border wars with Russia and Turkey respectivly accoplished little. The Khante advanced at a ever quickening pace, the freedom of its citizens grew quicker then that of western europes and the Crimea became a haven for dissdents from all over europe, Kerch and Kaffa especialy. The capital was moved to Astrakhan fallowing a warming of relations with Europe. The Khanate became to bread basket of europe. It also supplied wool and furs to industrilizing nations such as England. The Khanates disant position allowed it to stay out of Europe affairs for the most part, but on several occasions it was draged into its wars. During the Balkin wars between Russia and Turkey Crimea was used as the staging ground for English and French attacks into Russia to prop up the "sick man of europe" that had become the Turks. The Khanate also participated in the first world war, though its cavalry armys were more often then not dispatched by the Germans on the plains of Russia, though its participation helped prop up the Russian monarchy and brought the war to a favorible conclusion.

It's over? It can't be over already!

You've probably gotten into the asian version of BB wars, I think. So that is how you keep your stability up(referring to the bonus stability upwardly mobile). Bummer. I've only gotten one of those before.

I'm sorry to see you finish this already. I've been truly enjoying the advances of the Chagatai, even with the miserable land tech. If you only had a decent manpower pool, you could do the Peter Ebbesen moves, troops are cannonfodder!:)

I'll be looking forward to whatever country you start your next AAR with bated breath!

Your support was always welcome Amric, but it got to the point were I was dreding playing the Chagatai since it was becoming such a hassle. This was actualy my first empire building game on such a scale, all my other games were modest compared to this. I learned some lessions. ANd this game will be forever saved, only one other has that Honor, my KoJ game, now that was turely a master peice. The Holy Land looks quite nice Catholic. Not to mention Indonesia. :D

Sorry about the rebels. But you still have acomplished a gread success, building a great empire and uniting mongols. Khengis Khan would be proud of you (sory for the mix-up, I didn know who to writte it so took this world in my home language (BTW, lithuanians are balts, not slavs) and made it „more english” :D ).

Anxiously waiting for your next AAR.

P.s. Could you add some pictures of your empire in the day, you stopped playing?

Sure, not much changed though, I think Crimea was the only thing added, maybe some Steppe colonys. Now europe went into a fit, the Iberian Pen is crazy now.
