Could we add events for Fighter Aces? Like when Manfred von Richtoffen paints his plane red or when Godwin Brumowski did the same before him? Brumowski being the Austrian ace with the most kills. Or when some major ace (not a leader) gets shot down, an event that increases dissent by one or when your pilots shoot one down you get dissent -1? Just a thought.

Air aces are actually air leaders in the game, as most managed to eventually commad a squadron at least. Therefore, it would be difficult to reconcile your idea with the same people being usable leaders.

Here's a German flavour event:

Code:
# Death of von Moltke the Younger

event = {
    country = GER
    id = 21355
    random = no
    style = 0

    name = "Von Moltke the younger dies"
    desc = "General Helmuth von Moltke the younger, who succeeded Field
 Marshal Graf von Schlieffen as the Chief of the General Staff in 1906 has
 died. Admitting himself that he was not fit enough to fulfil the task of his
 predecessor, von Moltke was lethargic and lacked self-confidence. A keen
 cello player, he found comfort in theology, art history and oriental religions.
  Ignoring Schlieffen's principle of making 'the right wing strong', he watered
 down the original plan by altering it so that the German frontier was
 defended more effectively whilst ensuring that Dutch neutrality would not be
 violated. He will forever be remembered for not being the equal of his
 illustrious uncle, and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him."

    trigger = {
        atwar = yes
	}

    date = { day = 18 month = june year = 1916 }

    action_a = {
        name = "Who cares?"
        command = { type = sleepleader which = 21014 }
	command = { type = sleepminister which = 21007 }
	command = { type = sleepminister which = 21008 }

Here's another flavour event - I'll probably do more for other capital cities.

Code:
# German Army captures Paris

event = {
    country = GER
    id = 21356
    random = no
    style = 0

    name = "German Army captures Paris"
    desc = "The German Army has successfully captured the French capital,
 Paris. The French government fled many days ago, leaving the military
 governor of the city to organise the city's defence. Despite valiant efforts
 to transport troops by taxi cab to the front, the Germans tore a hole in the
 French lines and streamed through the gap to reach the city. Incessant
 artillery fire broke the defenders' resolve, and the city hastily surrendered."

    trigger = {
        control = { province = 527 = GER }
    }

    date = { day = 1 month = january year = 1914 }
    offset = 1
    deathdate = { day = 0 month = january year = 1924 }

    action_a = {
        name = "All your base are belong to us!"
        command = { type = dissent value = -6 }
    }
}

I'm personally not to sure about having a battle death simulated by event, as I think it is rather 'stage managed'. I'd argue that if we're going to have von Spee dying at Coronel, then we're going to have to have Lomax dying at First Ypres, Wing, Capper and Thesiger dying at Loos, Samsonov shooting himself at Tannenberg, Arbuthnot drowning at Jutland....

What do the great TGW public think?

I agree with Allenby. Flavour events should cover things going on in the wider world, beyond the control of the player. Military matters, and control of the military-industrial complex of your nation, should be in your hands, not those of the event-writer.

If von Spee had died in a completely different way, let's say of illness or in a freak accident, then I might support such an event. Not if his death happened in combat.

Incidentally, if a unit is completely destroyed, is its assigned leader also destroyed, or simply returned to the leader pool?

As far as I know they are returned to the leader pool. So if an army is encircled and destroyed, then their commander somehow manages to get through enemy lines/swims back to shore and report for duty.

I have encountered only twice where my Corps commander was actually killed in battle. One was in massive slug fest involving some twenty odd divisions on both sides (computer: Nationalist China, myself: Japan), the other was where smallish Corps of mine (Soviet Russia) was surrounded and obliterated.

So in essence it can happen, but it is pretty rare. I think there is a greater chance of a naval commander dying in the field when the fleet is destroyed than an army commander...although that could just be from the strange way naval combat is done.

I suggest two new Austrian events.

# The Sixtus Affair

event = {

id =
random = no
style = 0

name = "The Sixtus Affair"
desc = "In early 1917, soon after coming to the throne, Habsburg King-Emperor Karl, edged on by his anti-German wife, Kaiserin Zita, initiated an effort to negotiate a separate peace with Britain and France through his brother-in-law, Prince Sixtus of Bourbon-Parma, an officer in the Belgian Army. Sixtus accepted the task, and began one of the last instances of dynastic diplomacy between London, Paris and Vienna. The British and French showed interest in the idea and by August 1917 a rough deal had been worked out. Although Kaiser Karl was genuine in his desire for a separate peace, the Entente's primary motive was to cause a rupture in the Dual Alliance. Karl offered to cede Bosnia-Hercegovina to a new South Slav monarchy that would also embrace a restored Serbia and Montenegro and Albania. There also may have been some territorial concession to Romania. Italy would receive the Trentino. Trieste would become a free port. In return, Karl not only would receive guarantees on the preservation of the bulk of his existing empire, but also would be allowed to add Bavaria and Silesia at the expense of Germany. In addition, he or another designated Habsburg would become sovereign of a restored Polish state within the boundaries of 1772."

I'd also like to pose a question about Bulgaria.

Did they enter the war because they saw Serbia was about to fall, and wanted Macedonia?

Or, was Austria having such enormous problems with Serbia that they enlisted Bulgarian support?

If its the former that's true, then I suggest moving the Bulgarian CP event earlier because Serbia typically lasts for a grand total of a month or so.

If its the latter, then the most we can do is beef up the Serbian AI, and reduce the number of Bersjaegers the Austrians have.....

Because Bulgaria wanted Macedonia. It had always been our doom.
And because the Central powers promised it to Bulgaria outright, and the Entente promised only a possible consideration of the issue after the end of the war, if Bulgaria joined the war on their side.
But I agree you need to beef up the defense of Serbia. It must be somehow made a match to the A.-H. while defending. Perhaps some tweaking with the AI settings?

How about having the Bulgarians join the CP when A-H starts pushing back the Serbs? When they take a couple of serbian provinces, Bulgaria joins the CP, aimed particularly at Macedonia as their objective, if that's possible.

One caution. If Austria-Hungary had been able to do what they wanted in the first place - launch a quick, punitive attack on Serbia for the assassination of Franz Ferdinand - I don't think Bulgaria would have intervened. Not in August/September 1914. In fact, A-H might even have seen this as an attempt to interfere in their lawful revenge, and a hostile act!

I therefore suggest that if you do have an event bringing Bulgaria into the war when northern Serbia is occupied, you make it trigger only from, say, November 1914 onwards. If the Habsburgs conquer Serbia in a lightning campaign before then, tough luck for Bulgaria. :)

Incidentally, about Kaiser Karl's peace deal - should we mention that the current Pope has apparently decided to make him a Saint for this? :rolleyes:

Beatification it is for good old Karl. Will add a line at the end of it then....

Should we have AH simply leave the Central Powers (and grant all sorts of access) if France accepts the peace deal, or leave AND join the Entente?

Make it neutral and install the democratic cabinet to ensure that it doesnt hastily rejoin the Central Powers. I should think France would get the right to station troops in the Empire under such a peace deal as well, to make sure that its terms are properly implemented.

Join the Entente? :eek: :eek: :eek:
They were looking for a way out of a ruinous war, not trying to swap sides and backstab their ally Germany!

Also, bear in mind that the actual historical consequence of all this was that Germany (in HoI terms) reduced Austria-Hungary to a puppet and took military control of them, to prevent any more foolish talk about peace...
