Hi all,

Playing my first ever game inside the HRE with Brandenburg, hoping to form Prussia shortly, I've got 16 provinces under my belt and still deciding whether to dismantle the HRE or to go for Emperor (I still need both achievements).

I've got Influence and Offensive unlocked, about to come up to Admin Tech 10 and will take an Admin idea.

If I convert early when the Reformation hits, is the Center of Reformation that comes with it, enough to convert relatively smoothly without investing in Religious Ideas? I've got France and Muscovy as allies now after Poland, Bohemia and Austria all came and went as I expanded so should be a decent deterrent from attack.

I was planning on taking Innovative to keep my Army Tradition high but if the Reformation is going to be a problem I can take it later. I love Deus Vult anyways and with Influence it would make a great vassal feeding duo but not sure what to do.

Cheers.

IF you are just dealing with heretics I would go for for humanism. Better events, and the less revolt risk and less nationalism is perfect for an aspiring prussian.

That said, as long as you protect the reformation center it will just keep chugging away and eventually convert everything. Takes longer the farther it out it gets though

Hmm, for some reason, the Protestant COR that I controlled just magically disappeared (I'm playing a Catholic nation). The popup said that it was converted, but it was still Protestant, and I was deliberately avoiding converting it so I could get the "Center of Attention" achievement by converting to Reformed at the end of the game.

I went religious and was converting to reformed in 8-11 months, so extremely fast. I think it was overkill. The center did a good job converting for me, but I had it in Warmia and it was competing with protestant centers in Bohemia and Sjaelland. It converted most everything in the area. If you come up against some reformed centers though it might be more difficult. They get a +7 bonus against conversion. Still, if it's a problem check your vassals and see if any took religious and sell it to them and hope or take religious later.

Also, side note, if you're concerned you can convert, let the center start doing it's thing and see how long it will take to convert manually and after you're comfortable you can convert things take the other idea group you want. As long as you don't top out in Admin points it shouldn't hurt anything. Taking defender of the faith will also get you an extra missionary if you feel it's needed, but if you have 16 provinces I'm guessing most are grouped together.

I wish that would happen to the center in Bohemia, it's been driving me nuts!

Having looked through the events for Humanism they are nice. BROT is always good as well as I'm forever watching AE. I'm not going to be converting heretics at all I doubt, just want to take the entire German region and get a couple of achievements.

I'm now just trying to work out when to take what, I really don't like the idea of two admin idea groups back to back so may be a while before getting my planned Innovative ideas. I suppose it will be just as useful later on anyways.

Thanks, I was thinking it may be overkill, the saving grace was Deus Vult but I can certainly live without it as I'm rarely taking huge swathes of land due to the AE. I'll see how it pans out, I may take it eventually just for Deus Vult depending on who converts as I'm sure late game Poland/Lithuania and France will be the likely war fronts.

going to say BROT is not as all-important as it used to be. Having -400 AE with all of Europe is quite playable now.

I've had no problems keeping up in all my techs and ideas even taking two admin ideas in a row, Religious then Expansion (Influence > Quantity being the first two). I just set national focus to admin. The only time that has been a problem is when I went to war and annexed Denmark and the remains of Muscovy back-to-back and it tied up all my ADM for awhile. I'm used to playing ROTW nations though, so to me it feels like I'm rolling in MP.

You get 10 years of religious zeal when you switch, which is a large heretic conversion strength boost. Unless you're already massive (IE something the size of France or larger), it's hard to imagine a player needing religious or humanist. Bburg can almost certainly get by with neither unless you're doing heavy conquests into Russia or somehow wound up in Sunni land.
