Censoring of portrait and nuclear power

About the Hitler DLC: It was never reviewed by the USK because it is not a full game and so never got banned.
Edit: This is wrong. The DLC was reviewed and got a 18 rating, which is even more surprising and shows that some games show hitler legaly in germany and can be sold.
My german HOI3 game is from steam and it is not censored.

Seriously though, yes. Recently I have come to appreciate that we (Germany) got a pretty good thing going in that department, if only by comparison.

Just downloaded it. You can try it yourselfe. Delete your copy in steam and rightclick it and go in properties to language. Set it to German and and download it.

Even if we all would have your opinion, politics won't change soon. If you live in Germany - which i guess -, you know, that media and politics got several problems with certain computer games ("Counterstrike makes you a killer", "WoW players are mentally ill" and so on)

Do you remember how the show "Explosiv" on RTL went to gamescom and only filmed the worst geeks, just to show, how sick gamers are? That was unbelievable...
Edit: And i am a strategy gamer with my whole heart, got a girlfriend (who rolls with her eyes, when i'm in the forum), studied law, have a social life and so on...sometimes the society here is weird...

mdw1985 your mindset is that of 5-10 years ago, a lot has changed with the usk and whats allowed and not in videogames.
In most of the cases developers just censor the game without any need to just make sure they won't face troubles

The world seems to be too afraid of the revival of German militarism. Personally I don't think that these sort of restrictions are appropriate for one of the most advanced countries. The state should have enough confidence in its citizens,so that they are allowed to decide what is right and wrong. The swastika is an ancient european and asiatic symbol. India is full of them.

The dev was obviously referring to the opportunistic ban on nuclear power in Germany as a populist reaction to Fukushima. That doesn't mean that the atomic bomb will be censored in HoI4.

It should be an easy modding job. If for some reason I wouldn't be able to have the correct German leadership in HoI4, I wouldn't buy the game.
The irony is that the Hitler portrait is probably a tad too "sexy" for the censors. An old, ailing Hitler might have been okay. The logic behind the censorship is to prevent customers from turning full nazi due to playing the game. You never turn full nazi with an uncool Hitler portrait. A big, strong, sexy Hitler on the other hand... boy that could lead some impressionable lads to turn full nazi.

The thing is so absurd and of bad taste, that I thought that was simply the old good trolling of the devs.
Fallout 4 had to rename the Morphine to something else, can't use drugs' names in games for German release.
Roll on the day when people realise that Roderick Spode and Allo Allo are far better defences against fascism than any number of prohibitions.
