So i wont beat the dead horse about the geolock restriction for us german players, or the confusion surrounding it.
I merely wondered, whether it will be possible to play ironman with a mod installed, that will revert the censoring, since i definitely plan on doing that.

Since the censoring is only aesthatically as far as was announced, that should be possible right?
Also would it be possible for the devs to release a list of what exactly gets cut/changed, so it will be easy for modders to put together an uncensoring mod ASAP?

Thx, zero

Do you really think that Paradox will officially support you bypassing german laws? :D
It is not against the law to look at nazi symbols or if you so wish decorate your house with Swastikas and Portaits of Hitler, Rommel and Mengele if you so wish. It is merely against the law to distribute these or show them off in public. What i do at home is my thing, and i find it unreasonable to put shadow portraits in my game just for germany. As a consenting adult and historian i feel the need for historical immersion.

I known that it isnt against the law for personal use as long as you dont play it in public or distribute it. But i doubt that Paradox will help you bypass those limitations, because that would be illegal on their part. They cant just censor the game to sell it on the german market and then revert the changes.

I am not asking for an official "decensoring" mod, but just the confirmation that all the changes are merely cosmetic and wont affect the checksum if reverse modded, as should anyone have the right to do in my opinion.

I can't find a quote for it but I am pretty sure some staff have said that GFX mods will not change the checksum and therefore will work in MP and Ironman, I don't know if this also goes for event text though, But I would assume since that is probably in localization files it will also not effect the checksum.

If that kind of mod affects the checksum then the changes in the German version would affect the checksum in the first place, which would isolate German players from MP. I don't think Paradox would do that unless there really wasn't any other options.

a great way to handle this would be to just show some of the changed pictures so people can see the changes before ordering

Well Podcat(Project Lead) has said that these are the things that are different in the German version:

"So the differences are
- a bunch of prominent nazis get black (in the shadow) portraits
- some speeches in events are different
- SS generals have no skulls on their caps
- event pictures with hitler and stuff from point 1 are different"

Also in the WWW Streams you can see that Hitler is in shadows with a very dark portrait, But he is still recognizable.

Alright, looks like that should be easily moddable then. Might be a little bit of a hassle to find all the changed events though, since they said something about a hidden DLC component that is missing from the german version. I am not sure how it will work, but hopefully it will be possible to countercheck the differing event files and make a quick mod to gix it.
And yeah it certainly look like it will be ironman compatible from what theyve been saying about MP compatibility, so i hope we got this :)

I think thats the problem a lot of people have, the descriptions are very vague. paradox should just take one image of every change and post it, so that people can just see what the are purchasing instead of relying on their imagination

With modding as easy as it is going to be, it'd be less than three days before any Deutschland-based sticklers could enjoy a mod that reverts these changes.

Of course that would be naughty and entirely unsanctioned by Paradox.

Sounds like a non-issue honestly.

I'll sit down personally and mod it on release day if someone sends me the events file from the international version.

Oh and the portrait files of course to keep the artstyle intact.

I think the reason they are not doing this is because it could be seen as them assisting people in circumventing the law.

Yeah you are right, not planning on using german localization, but that would be a lot easier actually. Did'nt mod that much myself yet, only did some GFX modding in the past. So we jsut need someone to put up the english and german event localization files as well as the original portraits featured in the internatiol version. Should be doable :)

Cosmetic stuff like portraits and event texts wont change the checksum for sure. Otherwise germany would be isolated from MP in the first place and the devs clearly said it made no difference for multiplayer. I doubt that the german version, since it is slightly different than the international one, will alter the checksum if you reverted the changes.
