I would like to make a disaster suggestion for the Ottomans (don't know if it's already discussed, sorry if that's the case). But first I'd like to give some historical info for better comprehension. Those who want more exact info (because I'm really bad at explaining things and English is not my native language), can watch this directly instead:
, but if you only want a summary, go on with the text.
In the Ottomans, the first heir to come to the capital after the death of the current sultan was declared the new sultan. So after the death of sultan, a life-and-death race was held between the heirs. Usually the preferred heir was therefore stationed in provinces closer to the capital. Of course this wasn't always the case; Mehmed II declared a new law where the new sultan had to immediately kill his brothers after rising to throne (which some consider pretty brutal today).
Anyways, after Mehmed II passed away in 1481, one of his heirs, Cem Sultan (he was the prefferred heir by the vizier and some other influential people) could not make it in time to the Constantinople, thus, lost the throne to his bigger brother, Bayezid II (which was pretty much more incapable compared to Cem, as historians agree today).
Knowing that he is going to get killed because of his fathers law; Cem immediatly gathered an army of 4.000, walked upon Bursa (Hüdavendigar in the game; also the first big capital of Ottomans) and even defeated the forces that his brother Bayezid II sent. There, he declared himself the new Sultan and printed money in his name, etc. The sultanate came to the brink of civil war.
Soonly, Bayezid II came himself to face the illegitimate sultan, where he defeated and routed him to Konya. There, Cem Sultan escaped to Ramazan, and to the Mamluks afterwards.
He later came back again and besieged Konya, with heavy financial aid from Mamluks, Karamans and other surrounding states that felt threaten by the Ottomans. Losing again, he escaped to Rhodes to seek the Knights' aid. There, Cem Sultan promissed the Knights the islands taken from them and large amounts of money, in exchange for military aid. They happily agreed and after a while, it's decided that Cem Sultan, this precious hostage, had to be taken some place safe: France.
While Cem Sultan was residing there, Bayezid II made several attempts to take him back, as he did not want an Ottoman-blood person to stay in the hands of Christians as a trump card; which all failed. Cem stood in France for 6 years and sent to Rome afterwards, to see the Pope. The Pope, Innocentius VIII to be more exact, invited him to be a Christian but he firmly refused. Innocentius also tried to gather a crusader army using Cem, which also failed too. He died 5 years after in Napoli and the Ottomans finally breathed a sigh of relief.
I really think such a disaster would give Ottomans good flavour, and maybe, a little nerf. On the other hand, English has the War of the Roses, French has the Wars of Religion, central Europe has Religious Turmoil but the only unique disaster which Ottomans can have, the Janissary Coup, almost NEVER fires (playing this game since 2015, I only got it once as a 200 hours newbie and never again). Maybe this would balance it.
I don't have any idea how this would effect the Ottomans, maybe -2 dip rep; no FOW for the Christians fighting Ottomans during the disaster; -5 national unrest? Or for the trigger conditions, after Mehmed II dies Ottomans could get a monthly tick to disaster if their ruler has lower diplo skill than 5 / 6, or severely bad relations with Mamluks / Karamans / The Knights?
I would love to see it getting discussed.
