Celtic Reconquest: A de Rennes AAR

In the waning years of the Roman Empire and the centuries following its collapse, the Celtic people of Europe lost a significant amount of land to the invading Germanic peoples. On the continent the Gauls had been defeated by the Romans and much of their former territory was by this time controlled by the Franks. In Brittania the Saxons had driven the native Britons to flee and establishing themselves in Brittany and Cornwall. Wales, Ireland and Scotland still remained a Celtic homeland. For centuries now the Celtic people had been beaten back by the Germanic peoples and if nothing were to be done, it would seem the Celtic people would forever have to submit to them. Divided into petty fiefs and Kingdoms throughout Ireland, Brittany, Wales and Scotland they would be unable to resist Germanic expansion but together they could turn the tide.

This is the story of how one family attempted to turn back the Germanic expansion and re-establish the Celtic peoples of Europe.

I will be playing as the De Rennes family who start as Dukes of Brittany. My long term goal is fairly simple, which is to unite the Celtic people, retake the British Isles for the Britons, and use them to build up an eventual invasion of France. The catch is I will be trying to play within my characters traits, so I will not be taking a linear route to this means. My other rules are fairly simple:

1) No restarting ever, even on human error. I have annual autosaves on in case of technical failures. (I have one exception, which is if my dynasty ends prior to 1080, in which case I will find a suitable restart point)

2) No cheats

Not sure what else to say.

I was always very jealous of the ability of Celtic culture characters to form Kingdoms in Brittany, Cornwall and Wales. Its quite a big advantage being able to transform that Duchy of yours into a Kingdom as soon as you get the cash together.

Good luck! I've been thinking about that myself, except I'd start from Wales normally.

Not sure what else to say.

A bit of a teary first-person narrative would be in order as per general custom. :p
