Hello.

I came up with a mission tree and some national ideas for Celje which will be added in the next eu4 update. Now this suggestion doesnt mean that you have to include the exact same mission tree or national ideas to the game, but it is meant to inspire you of adding a mission tree and national ideas to Celje, since in my opinion they deserve it (even if its just 3 missions i'd be totally fine).

MISSION TREE

1589903792670.png

“Habsburg rivalry”
= Requirements : Is allied to Austrian rival. Effects: get permanent claims on Krain and Unterkarnten, get +2 diplo reputation for 25 years. Description: The rise in power of the Celje dynasty brought them at great odds against the Habsburgs who were dukes of Inner Austria. For our small county to survive we need to gain strong allies.

“Qustion of Hungary”= Requirements : (a) Austria and Hungary are in a union; (b) Hungary has Hunyadi dynasty); effects: (a) Austria/Hungary (the leader of the union) gets an event where he can choose between giving Celje all of Styria, Carinthia, Carniola, Croatia, Slavonija and Dalmatia or betraying the Cilli and giving them nothing (75% they betray the Celje dynasty); (b) Celje gets permanent claims on Croatia, Slavonija and Dalmatia. Description:The relations between the county of Celje and the kingdom of Hungary were very close as Ulrik II resided over Ladislaus Posthumous during his coronation in 1440. Because of this Ulrik gained enemies in the Hungarian nobility that favoured Matthias Corvinus as king. Should Ladislaus prevail, he might acknowledge our claims in Croatia and Inner Austria, should he not, our relations with him might get hostile. Should Corvinus succeed our situation will become desperate, and we will have to take our claims with force.

“Bohemian connections”= Requirements : completed “Habsburg rivalry”, is allied to Bohemia and relations above 100. Effect: gains historical friend modifier with Bohemia and 200 diplo points. Description: The county of Celje would not exist without the help of the old Luxembourg dynasty of Bohemia. Although a new dynasty now rules over Bohemia, we should still have close relations with them as they could help us fight the Austrians in the future.

“Unite our possessions”= Requirements: completed “Habsburg rivalry” and “Question of Hungary”, owns core provinces Krain and Unterkarnten. Effects: Gain 100 administrative points, +3 dev (1 per category) in capital of Celje. Description: Although the core of the county lies in Celje, other possessions lie scattered around Carniola and Carinthia, it is time that we unite all of our possessions under one county.

“Ties in the Balkans”= Requirements: completed “Bohemian connections” and has royal marriage with Bosnia. Effects: Bosnia gains a decision to become a lesser partner in a union under Celje (75% they accept), and they gain reduced liberty desire for 50 years), or they don’t accept and you get permanent claims on Bosnia). Description: The counts of Celje were in many ways similar to the Habsburgs as they used marrieges to gain land. Over time they gained land possessions and royal ties in Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia. Ulrich II now has a legitimate claim on the Bosnian throne, and although the Hungarian nobility is against such plans, with luck the Bosnians might agree to it.

Note: If Bosnia gets conquered by ottomans, the requirements to fulfill the missions are to own and core all provinces in Bosnia area and will give you +5 development in the province of Bosna.

“Claims in Gorizia”= Requirements: completed “Unite our possessions”, owns core provinces Goriza (Gorz) and Trieste. Effects: gain 20 prestige, +3 dev in Gorz. Description: The counts of Gorizia of the Mainhardiner dynasty helped us out during our previous wars against the Habsburgs. Now a lot of their lands have been lost to the Austrians. We should incorporate their lands into Celje and cut off the Habsburgs from the sea.

“Expand to the North”= Requirements: completed “Unite our possessions”, owns core provinces Graz, Oberkarnten and Steiermark. Effects: gain 300 ducats, gain 10 prestige. Description: We should push further north and conquer all of Styria and Carinthia. With those rich lands will finally be powerful enough to stand on our own and the Habsburgs will be forced to recognize us as their equals.

“Crusaders”= Requirements: completed “Ties in the Balkans”, is at war with Ottomans. Effects: gain +15 morale for 25 years. Description: It has become a tradition for the counts of Celje to be heavily involved with war. Not all counts or dukes ride off to war together with their troops, but the counts of Celje are an exception. Let us embrace our legacy of Herman II who saved the holy roman emperor at the battle of Nicopolis. The men of Celje shall once more ride out and face the Ottoman threat.

“Claiming electorate”= Requirements: completed “Ties in the Balkans”, there is 1 free electore space, have atleast 100 positive relation with the emperor OR atleast 50 positive relation with all electors. Effect: become elector of the holy roman empire. Description: The rise from being vassals of the dukes of Styria, to becoming independent princes of the Holy roman empire was as fascinating as it was surprising. But why stop here. We have served the Luxembourg emperors with honor, and protected the realm against the Turks many times. It would only be fair if we would become electors.

“Adreatic trade”= Requirements: completed “Claims in Gorizia”, has marketplace in both Gorz and Istria. Effect: gain +10% trade efficiency for 25 years and gain 100 ducats. Description: Standing between the rich cities of Northern Italy and the rural plains of Hungary we were always the middle man in the trade of cattle. Now that we have access to the sea, we can expand our trade to all of the Adreatic Sea.

“Peace and prosperity”= Requirements: completed “Adriatic trade” and “Expand to the North”. Effects: gain 5 development in Celje, gain 300 ducats and get +5% tax modifier for 10 years. Description: The road to independence and power was one of brilliant diplomacy and brutal wars. Now that we are secure from an immediate threat, we should focus on developing our nation for the good of our people.

National ideas:

1589903828243.png

Traditions = Effect: +10% manpower, +10% tax modifier.

“Imperial ties” = Effect: +2 diplomatic reputation, +1 yearly prestige. Description: Not many dynasties can claim to have a queen ruling over an empire and two kingdoms. But due to Barbara Celjska we can. Being married married to Sigismund von Luxembourg, she was empress of the holy roman empire, queen of Bohemia and queen of Hungary. Because of her we are being respected throughout the empire.

“Balkan diplomacy” = Effect: +1 diplomatic relation. Description: From Trsat to Kostanjica and Varazhdin (Varaždin), our feudal possessions are all across Croatia, and our dynastic ties with the Bosnian rulers helps us to spread our influence over all of the Western Balkans.

“Eternal rivals” = Effect: +5% discipline, +5% espionage efficiency. Description: There will never be peace between the Habsburgs and the counts of Celje, for only one can exist in Inner Austria. This rivalry culminated in a series of war between 1440 and 1443 which resulted in a mutual hereditary contract. But the Habsburgs can not be trusted, we should stay on alert for assassins and have our troops prepared for another war.

“Defiant till the end” = Effect: local defensiveness +10%. Description: Ever since the von Luxembourg dynasty fell and the Habsburgs became emperors the odds were against us. But we shall remain defiant till the end.

“Ruling over Slavs” = Effect: max promoted cultures +1. Description: Although it is difficult to say weather the counts of Celje were Germans or Slavs, most of their subjects were of Slavic origin, yet different from Croats and Serbs. To have the population behind us we need to embrace their ethnic and linguistic uniqueness.

“Legacy of Herman II” = Effect: +1 leader fire. Description: Herman II was the bravest of all the counts of Celje. He joined the crusade against the Ottomans and in 1396 saved the holy roman emperor from certain death. It his because of his bravery that our dynasty was able to rise above the others. We need men like him to lead us in our future wars.

“Counts of Celje, today and forever” = Effect: +25% chance of new heir. Description: We fought hard for our titles, yet it call all be lost if our dynasty dies out. Let us pray to God to always provide us with a healthy male heir. For we are the counts of Celje, and we shall stand tall against our enemies, today and forever.

Ambitions = +5% trade efficiency

EVENTS

Now events would be difficult to make without being too OP.

I have 3 events in mind. One would be something regarding the trade of cattle, since a major trade rout of cattle ran from Hungary, across modern day Slovenian lands into Italy. Might give something with trade efficiency. Another event might be if Austrian ruler dies without any heir, making Celje inherit all Austrian lands (or idk, maybe all HRE land? Or all Inner Austria land or something), due to the double inheritance agreement made just a year before game start. And last one would be something with Ladislaus Posthumus behoming king of Hungary

REASONS WHY CELJE DESERVES A MISSION TREE AND NATIONAL IDEAS:

The story of how the dynasty of Celje became counts and independent princes of the HRE is amazing and like from a fairy tale. Their Rise to power was sudden and unexpected. And so was their downfall (due to not having a male heir). Herman II of Celje went on a crusade against the Ottomans and saved the life of emperor Sigismund von Luxembourg. Due to that the emperor married a member of the Celje dynasty (Barbara Celjska) and later raised Celje into a county. The count of Celje was also there protecting the pope during the council of Constance. Furthermore, Ulrik II of Celje, the last member was general of Bohemia and helped crown Ladislaus Posthumous as king of Hungary. He was later killed while on a crusade by hungarian nobles who supported Mathias Corvinus, ending the male line of Celje, which then fired a war of succession between the Habsburgs, the remmants of the county of Gorizia and loyal hungarian nobles.

Please paradox i beg you, in the name of all your Slovenian fans, PLEASE add a mission tree (even a small one) and national ideas for Celje. Thank you!

I suggest an event for the 1511 Idrija Earthquake which destroyed large sections of Ljubljana. Have options to do nothing, ask the estates for help (for which they expect a reward) or rebuild the city in a renaissance style (which they did historically).
I much prefer the missions that encourage development and natural growth than just "conquer this, get free claims etc." and Celje has a great potential for this.

Thanks for the reply :D yea an event for the earthquake would be cool. About Celje mission tree, it's just a suggestion of some missions that could be added :). The reason why i went for claims on Croatia and Inner Austria is because Celje had a lot of land in those areas and would be cool to consolidate it. And Ulrik II had a claim on the Bosnian throne. :p But i also like development over too much expansion mission tree. Thats why i added this adreatic trade one :) could also be a "cattle trade" mission, cuz a trade route of cattle went through those lands from Hungary to northern Italy.

I am no expert on Slovenian, but it should be just Pest and its probable translation of Pešta, because Budapest doesnt exist in the timeframe of eu4.

First off, I just want to congratulate you for all the effort you put into making this thread, so please know that any critique I give is only meant in good faith. :)

The new missions seem mostly alright, so I won't really focus on those all too much. However, the NIs are way too OP and far too many are military-focused. Looking at this set it seems like you're trying to turn Cilli/Celje into some sort of South Slavic Prussia, which just doesn't fit historically as their greatest strength was diplomatic maneuvering and obtaining strategic marriages, much like their eventual Austrian overlords. Not to mention, playing in the HRE while being surrounded by far stronger regional powers means that playing the diplomatic game and playing tall are essential, something which should be reflected in the NI set for Cilli/Celje. Here are some I made for them a while back:

Traditions
+1 Yearly Prestige
+1 Attrition for Enemies
Ulrik's Legacy
Perhaps the most influential of the Counts of Cilli, Ulrik II was at times of the most influential statesman in Central Europe, holding sway over the thrones of both Hungary and Bohemia, greatly increasing foreign ties in the process.
+1 Diplomatic Reputation
+1 Diplomatic Relations
Archdiocese of Ljubljana
On September 6th 1462, the Diocese of Ljubljana was separated from the Patriarchate of Aquileia by the Pope, and would be elevated to an Archdiocese in 1787: a key affirmation of the Slovene people.
+1% Missionary Strength
March of Carinthia
Successor of the Slovene Duchy of Carantania, the March of Carinthia would grow to be one of the predominant powers before falling to the Habsburgs, with its recovery becoming an ambition of the Slovenes for centuries afterwards.
-10% Aggressive Expansion Impact
Balkan Refuge
After the fall of Serbia, Bosnia, and parts of Croatia to the Ottomans, many sought refuge in the Slovene lands, eventually integrating themselves with the native population and boosting our overall economic strength.
+7.5% National Tax Modifier
+7.5% National Manpower Modifier
Catechismus and Abecedarium
The first works published in the Slovene language, the Catechismus and Abecedarium were among the first steps towards the standardization of the Slovene language, leading to a greater sense of unity among our people.
-2 National Unrest
Illyrian Provinces
Born out of military aggression, the Illyrian provinces represent a union of the Slovene lands with Dalmatia and the Croat territories south of the Sava river, bringing multiple different peoples under one polity.
+2 Max Promoted Cultures
Heirs of Carantania
The legacy of the powerful Duchy of Carantania is one the Slovenes have been trying to reclaim for centuries, and as our state grows in power, that goal grows closer within our sights.
+1 Yearly Legitimacy
Ambition
+10% Goods Produced Modifier

Zagreb - I used Karlovec here (Karlovac) because there's no exonym for Zagreb. Could just keep it as is though.
I would also suggest against this one because the city of Karlovac was only created in the 18th century, so it wouldn't be appropriate for the 1444 start. ;)
