Changing the Finnish basic fighter model 12_0

As far I know no one has noticed the mistake that is made concerning the Finnish 12_0 basic fighter. The game developers made the choice for the VL Myrsky 1. Why is this choice made? I don't know.

The Myrsky was not an early war plane. The game let us believe that the Myrsky 1 was in Finland the predecessor of the Messerschmitt Bf-109G Gustav, that is not true. The Myrsky 1 was the prototype of the Myrsky 2 interceptor. In total were only four Myrsky 1 planes built. The first Myrsky 1 prototype flew in December 1941 and there were many problems with this plane. The test flights showed problems with the sturtural strength during high speed tests. The three other prototypes were destroyed during the test flights, and two test pilots died, one was seriously injured.

The series production started after German deliveries of Messerschmitt Bf 109G fighters had begun in 1942. The series production version was called Myrsky II. 47 Myrsky II fighters were built and together with the Myrsky I version the production amounted to 51 fighters. Although the aircraft met the specifications set for it, it did not fully fulfill expectations due to structural problems.

As for some other minor powers is i.m.o. the best choice for the Finnish basic fighter (game model FIN_12_0) the Brewster Buffalo fighter. The same is true for the Netherlands. The Koolhoven F.K.58 did never flew in the Dutch airforce, but the Buffalo did in the Dutch East Indies. It was an important fighter plane there. At first 144 buffalo's were ordered but after the collapse of the Netherlands in May 1940 the order was reduced to 72 planes. Later, in 1941, twenty more Brewsters were ordered but by the time war began against Japan only 71 had arrived in the Netherlands East Indies. As the Dutch Buffalo's were lighter than the F2A-3 used by the US, they were able to successfully dogfight the Japanese Nakajima Ki-43, although it was still out-turned by the A6M Zero.

It is credible to use the Brewster also for the game model BEL_12_0. Belgium ordered in December 1939 forty Buffalo fighters. Unfortunately, only two aircraft reached France during the collapse of Belgium and they were later captured by the Germans. Six planes ended up in Martinique with the French Air Force, where they were eventually destroyed. The rest of the order was passed to the UK, where they were considered unfit for duty in western Europe, they were supplied to British Commonwealth air forces in Asia.

In Finland was the Brewster Buffalo a real success story. The aircraft did not arrive in time for the Winter War, but their impact in the Continuation War from 1941 until 1944 was remarkable. The fighter was never referred to as the Buffalo in Finland; it was known simply as the Brewster, or sometimes by the nickname Taivaan helmi ("Sky Pearl") The Buffalo was the Finnish main fighter until 1943. Results with this fighter were very good, even though the type was considered to be a failure in the US Navy & with British Far East forces. The Buffalo gained a reputation as one of the most successful combat aircraft ever flown by the Finnish Air Force. The Messerschmitt Bf-109G Gustav replaced the Buffalo as the primary front-line fighter of the Finnish air force in 1943, though the Buffalo's continued in secondary roles until the end of the war.

***

I have found the Finnish inaccurate plane model because I work for my self on a Dutch mod. I am not satisfied with the original Dutch (general) equipment models. I have already created a lot of ill_div_hol_XX_X pictures and have more suggestions to create more realistic Dutch models. I hope this will finally also be incorporated with the SKIF icons mod too, I like these icons very much.

@Aemilius XXIII: It sounds resanoble to me, but check out my above post on the general model corrections. Its a big sandpit to go into, people have various ideas. My limitied time currently is thrown into tracking down the mission efficiency bugs and try to make a workable hotfix until paradox fix what needs fixing in a patch. The current hotfix in the CDCP mod is fairly well but its not 100% solid.

Perhaps model corrections can be something for the future.

If you choose to go that route (and I won't blame you a bit if you don't), there's at least one genuine error there. The unit picture for the UK Surrey-class heavy cruiser (model 23_2) is actually the York-class heavy cruiser HMS Exeter.

I have made a unit pic for the Norfolk class (of which the never-ordered Surrey was to have been a part) for my own mod and would be happy to share it with it CDCP. Just let me know!

PMed you.
I have added your Picture for The Hypothetical Surrey class CA Paradox uses for ENG_Model_23_2. I wont do anything else since the British York Class CA really cant be compared to the US CA's models build in the 1930'ties. Which are Models_23_2(Basic) and 23_3(Improved) All British CA's has been combined to one Model, the Kent Class CA. Which is fairly resanoble with the way the vanilla models are setup in general.

thx for the picture.

EDIT:
Action B "Scandinavia is not important" in event 26 (Altmark) should sleep event 29 (Weserübung).
I have looked on these events and it will not stop the German AI to do the Norways invasion. So for AI reasons i will leave it as is.

Privately in my personal game i will change it so the German AI Will not invade Norway if it picks Scandinavia is not Importent, and hence sleep Event 29.
It is not something that should be included in this mod.

thx for the picture.

You're very welcome! Am always glad to help out this indispensible mod.

(BTW, I can't fathom why PI didn't just make 23_1 the County class and 23_2 the York class, which both makes the existing pictures correct and a great deal more logical sense.)

Since the York class cant really compare with the US model_23_2 which where designed in the mid thierties. It make sense in my opinion to just combine all UK CA's into one model, model_23_1. The Surrey class name for model_23_2 is kind of an odity.

I can see that.

You may want to consider making 23_1 the County class: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/County_class_cruiser

New version

I have uploaded the new version of the Mod. Version 0.43

This should fix all remaining issues with the Hotfix for Mission efficiency's.

ASW mission is still bugged, can only be fixed by Paradox.

I don't remember if anyone has posted about this...
Nikolai Yezhov (4045) is put in place as head of intelligence by Stalin's purges, but he is a PA and thus automatically removed from office the very next day.
He also exists as a ST minister of security, a PA head of state and a PA head of government for the USSR.

Hi and thanks for this great job !
Can you say me what you exactly changed about the techs between the 0.40 and the 0.43 ? because when i compare them, i see you deleted this for example bewteen the 0.40 and the 0.43 :

'command = { type = task_efficiency which = attack value = -0.5 }
command = { type = task_efficiency which = support_attack value = -0.5 }
command = { type = task_efficiency which = support_defense value = -0.5 }
command = { type = task_efficiency which = reserves value = -0.5 }
command = { type = task_efficiency which = anti_partisan_duty value = -0.5 }'

So, do i have the correct 0.43 and if it is, what are the effects of the change ? Thanks for the reply and sorry if my question sounds idiot. :)

I want to add your system in my mod but i have to admit that i am lost, modding techs is not my speciality. :(

Correct! I thought they where bugged initially but after some more testing they seemed alright. I think i made an error with the mission none in the first test, that gave me the incorrect result.

So v.043 has the final hotfix for missions where the landmissions are back to normal

Sorry Wobbler i have completely missed this post.

I have checked both Doomsday 1.3a and Armageddon 1.1 and in neither do Stalins purge event id = 2609 install a new minister of Intelligence.

Code:
	command = { type = ministerofsecurity which = 4041 }
	command = { type = chiefofstaff which = 4051 }
	command = { type = chiefofnavy which = 4061 }
	command = { type = chiefofair which = 4065 }
These are the minister changes i have in the purge event.

Must have been changed from 1.2, then - but the Vanilla 1.3 event still sleeps Berzin, the default minister.
