CD Rom version for Mac

Hello everybody,
I'm a French user and I buy Cities Skylines in the physical Editon (So with the CD Rom) but it's for my girlfriend and she's got a MacBook. So I would know if in Mac, we must download the game in Steam or other, or if the game is compatible with Mac with an "outside" little download during the big installation.
I expect that my English is good and excuse me if it's not.

You need to download steam on her laptop and then login as you and download the game. You don't need the disk really.

Even DVD versions require Steam to install and run. You can install your copy of this game via Steam on as many machines as you like, but you can only play it on one at once.
