Don't forget the Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895) either. The Chinese Empire wasn't too powerful, but it wasn't in its full decline yet either. It was actually this war that is considered one of the major events that led to the eventual collapse of Manchu China. It wasn't as big as the Russo-Japanese War, however, as Russia, Germany, and France stopped the Japanese from taking much territory. So, only some Chinese islands and Taiwan were captured. Remember that this was also only about 30 years of Meiji Japan. So, it was less advanced and powerful than in the Russo-Japanese War.
