Chapter 63
King Unuist the Second
Landing in France was met with little resistance. While the countryside was filled with Catholics, Unuist declared that his holy wrath would not be cast upon the peasants for they were just brainwashed by their French Lords. But just in case, the lead generals took paths which stayed clear of catholic churches.
France on the mainland was plunged in war. They were fighting several foes, not just Unuist. Rebels in Flanders and Bordeaux put thorns in France's feet, not to mention internal fighting among the French nobles. This left France's armies scattered and disorganized.
Eventually fighting began.
Unuist's army cut down the French like a hot knife through butter. Not even the commanding generals could escape Unuist. The Duke of Dauphine was the most notable capture in the early battles.
With the initial forces crushed, Unuist moved his army to the capital of France, Vermandois. He laid siege to the castle for months before it finally opened it's gates in surrender. There was some looting, but Unuist helped hold most of it back. The only notable thing done was replacing the catholic clergy with cathar. There was unrest at the change, but most went back on with their lives.
After Vermandois fell, the next target was the French force in Luxemburg. It posed the largest threat to his plans in France.
Though on the way, His daughter Cristen learned to love the sword more than the pin. She said she wanted to fight against the catholics as well. Unuist approved of this and allowed a trainer for her.
Though he learned a day later that she had suffered an injury. Unuist was suspicious of this accident, as her injuries was mostly serious bruising to the face. The trainer claimed that she had fallen on her face and hit a rock, but Unuist felt different. He dismissed him from training her and decided to train her himself. Sadly, she didn't seem to have the enthusiasm for it as she once did. He felt a bit sad at that. Not a good feeling to go into a battle with.
