Chapter 42
“Well, if you put it that way...”
“You know what, Chief? If you had simply forfeited the stolen title to the Crown peacefully, that would have been it. However, what you did here is High Treason. Normally, it would be your head, but since killing things is against our religious beliefs, I am going to have to confiscate your other title as well.”
“But that is mine by right, passed down the Auenle line for generations!”
“Not anymore.”
“I have the right to be judged by the jury of my peers!”
“You already have, when we came up to your door asking you to forfeit your title, nicely.”
What his ultimate fate would be, I do not know. He will most likely be freed after a few years, but thanks to him the House Auenle fell from grace and it will take generations to come for them to gain anything again.
As that part of the issue was solved, the Royal Chancellor asked me a rhetorical question: “Town or Castle?”
Though I would've said, Town, thinking it might be a riddle I settled for Castle before he disappeared into the mist.
After a month of marching, we had finally arrived at Kildare where I decided to try and settle this peacefully first.
“Good people of Iuerthon, this is your Prince, the rightful ruler and King of this realm. I ask that you put down your arms and surrender.”
“Never!”
Just like that, over twelve hundred lives perished that day.
As I returned to the headquarters in Dublin, I realised that it was a new year already. Later that day, a Bishop of Dul Blaan came towards me and asked if I needed a better Court Chaplain.
“Why do I need a better Court Chaplain? The good Bishopess seems to be doing a fine job, convincing the populace to embrace the light.”
“Well, you see, Your Majesty, though she is a good evangelist, that is not the only job of a Court Chaplain. Granted, evanglism is necessary, but anyone can do that. However, only a Court Chaplain can make sure that the spiritual health of His Majesty is in good shape. This is the reason I have approached you today, you seem troubled, thus my offer.”
“I see, that totally makes sense. You're hired!”
King Talor II of Iuerthon
“Oh dear, oh dear. You didn't think that you would simply get home scoff free after raising arms against your King, did you?”“Well, if you put it that way...”
