Actually no, but I am thinking about it. This was done sort of as an after thought.Haha oh wow, I wouldn't have expected the Blorg to have that much ... height. So you did full-body portraits then and just cropped it to the upper-half?
I think that's a pretty neat idea actually. With the current portrait style, everyone just kind of appears to be roughly the same height, which would obviously not be the case.Actually no, but I am thinking about it. This was done sort of as an after thought.
I kind of figured the Blorg were sort that tall awkward and slightly imposing guy that really wants to be your friend but ends up just making everyone uncomfortable ;P
Moving forward with new designs, I am most likely going to do this - if nothing else, they'll be added to the line up, which I want to keep going.I think that's a pretty neat idea actually. The little line up adds a perspective I find quite pleasing.
Thank you!I am incredibly in love with your work, well done.
haha! I'll up it's repugnancy then! It's up next on the revision list, so look for it in a day or so!I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the Nyoggoth. What a neat creature that thing is. If anything deserves the "Repugnant" trait, it's that monstrosity.
That does seem to be a developing theme, so I don't think you'll be too disappointed!I want a tonne more of these lovecraftian species, can't have enough of them.
Thank you! And, I would not be opposed to working with PDI! I'm hoping that I can generate enough interest that they really don't have a choice!Paradox Interactive needs to hire this good man to make their Species/Portrait dlcs!
On that note, amazing work, 10/10 will download.
I've considered it, but til recently I had very little time/energy to spend on it. That and I tend to lack patience.Ah, still - I don't know how serious you are about doing that stuff, but I'd still recommend getting a hold of one of the professional grade programs (CS6 is good). Another option would be to take some online or on campus course in 3D art if that's something you want to pursue. There's some serious crazy work being done out there in 3D!

I have never been able to wrap my head around 3D. Even sculpting with clay gives me fitsI've considered it, but til recently I had very little time/energy to spend on it. That and I tend to lack patience.
3D is fun and you can do some really cool stuff, but one thing I've always wanted to get the hang of is digital painting.
How will you be animating it? I hope it's easy enough that it becomes the standard for mods. Would be a nice little upgrade.[EDIT] YES. This will be a mod!

So, I think I may have mentioned once or twice that I draw stuff, and I really like alien race design, so, I intend on putting together a catalogue of alien race portraits that I'm doing for my own mod, viewable in this thread. I will be adding more as I complete them, so watch this space!
Also, if someone in the know could give the specs for what is needed to do our own customized race portraits, that would be awesome, because right now I'm just using the forum portraits as a template for this. I'd love to have this game ready as soon as possible.
As time allows, I'd hope to animate them as well.

At this time, I'm not sure. I'm assuming that I'll be using Adobe After Effects, but so far I haven't heard anything on the requirements for race mods. Once I get a hold of the specs, I'll be able to systemize it, and can post a step by step if one isn't provided by PDI.How will you be animating it? I hope it's easy enough that it becomes the standard for mods. Would be a nice little upgrade.

Aaaaand of course I notice something that I want to fix >_<
The rest of the pending species will be similarly updated - brought into tighter focus, cleaned up and noodled on until I'm happy with them
Re: The Kukeri frame - yeah, that was the first one I did, so didn't have the frame template down the way I wanted it yet. I can always go back in and update it if everyone prefers![]()
No problem - I had actually thought about it originally, but thought that in the original post it would be too confusing. I'll do it in the update post from now on, though!Huh, I knew something was different but I didn't realize it was that different! Please do the side-by-side with the other three please, it's nice to see how much better the new versions were improved.Where are you at with other portraits? I'd imagine you probably would work in alternating shifts between something new and updating the pending ones?
Thanks! The second one is so much nicer, I think. I love the colors you brought to it. Especially around the eyes. A creative person could come up with so many reasons for those colorful eyes. While I'm still waiting with baited breath for the Nyggoth, I applaud your work so far. You mean to tell me you are doing this for fun?! What an amazingly useful hobby!
