Ok, I've got a couple of minor bugs to work out - like the CTD with random names, and blank names for randomly generated empires using the new portraits. Aside from that, they seem to be working fine. So, let's look for the first initial release this weekend some time.
I'll break it down as the Alien Suns collection and then individual portraits. Will have unique namelists as well.
EDIT: Oh - also - you mentioned that using the random name option for the new species was causing the game to crash? Might that be because the new 'Carnivore' category doesn't have a default nameset assigned to it? My experience of modding is very limited but if I were to make a guess that would be it (apologies if you've already eliminated that as a possibility).
Not entirely sure that is the cause, though it did turn me on to some other things, so thanks! What's happening right now is when you use one of the portraits as your own empire, select a namelist (any namelist) hit random for leader name / planet, etc. it causes a crash to desktop.
Randomly generated species using the portraits in game work fine, except for empire names, which are usually lacking their initial identifier - so instead of say, "Ithaqgha Democratic Planets" or whatever, we're ending up with "[space] Democratic Planets" ... which sort of works? But not really what I want. I think your suggestion above will address this, but I won't know until I get home from work to test it out.
No idea what's up with the Kukeri on the Gas Giant though - that's... pretty odd.
That appears to be just a game bug. I heard of a few other people running into the same issue. I also experienced it using humans, so I can rule out the portraits causing the problem.
Cheers,
