I have been playing my first Ironman game with Tribal and I started with Elective Gavelkind succession. After two character deaths so far I have noticed that my brothers become independent and I get a claim on their Duchy. After pressing the claim and winning the war though, I get the duchy but not the lower titles and the sibling remains independent. I wish I could play around for a bit and try the different options but I can't due to Ironman mode. Which casus belli should I use to make sure that my I can get the lands back?

Do you have Holy Fury? You can choose to duel your brothers for the titles back. If you win you get them back. If you lose, you can choose to die and play as the brother. Either way you reunite the land.

Are you sure they are independent? They should should be your vassals. Unfortunately if they are your vassals murder is probably your best option though.

was about to say, they *should* be vassals now with you as their liege, and make sure that is the case before you go murdering them.

sure landed dynasty members can be icky for a bit, usually a generation or two, but after the competing claims run out, it becomes a decently reliable branch as backups to prevent gameover, or an easy +5 vassal opinion for same dynasty
