Casus bell-ee or bell-eye?

If I'm not terribly mistaken, pronouncing it as bell-eye would make it plural - wars instead of war. Bellum = War, Bellae (sp?, "eye") = wars, Belli = for war. In this case pluralizing it makes it somewhat ungrammatical, in the sense that casus belli, taken together, is a compound noun, and the "casus" would only ever be pluralized - thus "casae belli", as in "courts martial" or "governors general".

They more or less pronounce it properly (as per reconstructed Latin phonetics) yet they mispronounce "Europa"...

I think it's the same root word that gives us "bellicose", so it makes sense for it to be pronounced bell-ee.

Well, I don't remember any recording of lation people speaking. So, pronounce it as you wish. (but you should pronounce it the latin way and not the english one).

All of the direct descendant languages of Latin pronounce "I" in belli as Belly. Spanish, Italian,French, Catalan, Neapolitan, Venetian. the list goes on and on. Is this a coincidence? Of course not. Plus the Authoritative Grammar manual of the Spanish Language "la nueva gramatica de la lengua espanola" by the Real Academia also states the pronunciation from Latin and Vulgar Latin is Belly. Germanic languages are not as advanced as the Romance languages sorry to say.

Well, I can say it's true for Italian (plus dialects), French (plus langues d'oïl), Romanian, Occitan, Arpitan and Catalan. I don't know about other hiberian languages, but I guess it's the same. I have no source for this, it's basic knowledge you can find everywhere on the internet.

If the base word is bellum (which I suppose makes it a second declension neutral-gender noun), then I'll hazard a guess that belli is singular and that its plural would be bellorum.
But pronounciation of latin letters shouldn't vary based on any context AFAIK.

There is still Traditional Latin Mass, in some (Catholic) churches - and IIRC if the faithful of the parish requested it, they could even get their dull native language mass all spiced up with Latin. Why does this matter? Because you don't even need a recording (though it might be easier to find than an actual Latin-versed priest)

Of course, this isn't the Latin pronunciation of the Romans, just as much as our English doesn't have the same pronunciation as Will's.

Belli is a genitive neuter singular addressing Causus, Therefore there is a Macron on the 'i', so its causus bellī; pronounced like "ee" in deep.
