Hi everyone, i've posted on reddit but couldn't find any valuable answer, so here am i.

I've tried playing Castille countless times this month and i've never been able to get Burgundy under myself. Once, they've fallen under personal union of Stettin, once under Ferrara. The other times Burdundy falled under France or Austria. Rarely they stayed independent (I've tried 11 times this month). I've royal married them each time of course.

Everytime i ally Burgundy and raise their opinion to 200. Mostly Charles dies by old age, after 1500.

Once they've fallen under Austria but i had no heir, Austria gave me lowlands in exchange of an Habsburg heir.

Please, i'm trying to understand what i'm doing wrong. I have no clue and i've literally tried different methods, like allying HRE emperor or not, giving Burgundy the province of Calais or letting them lose some lands by not allying them etc.

I'm currently playing with the latest patch, i've also bought the new dlc Origins, tho i'm not sure if Origins has anything to do with it.

By the way i wasn't playing Castille for a long time, so i really don't know the POV of Castille. Tho i've played Burgundy last year, it was fun to form Lotharingia. Still, i've no clue about the things i should do to get Burgundy PU under Castille. Please, explain to me.

With the recent change to BI i think the only interraction CAS/SPA has with it is
"Once they've fallen under Austria but i had no heir, Austria gave me lowlands in exchange of an Habsburg heir.".
But im not sure, can someone else confirm?

I got the lowlands once while i had no heir, i had to accept an Habsburg heir from Austria. Tho most of the lowlands were independent because of the incompotent late king of Burgundy.

I've royal married them each time of course.
Did you send them the Royal marriage offer? If you accept an offer from them, the RM breaks when Charles dies and you won't be eligible for the inheritance anymore, because it is checked afterwards.

Sorry but i don't understand. I send them royal marriage offer at the beginning, while Phillipe reings. Afther Charles ascends to the throne or her mother is in regency, i royal marry them again. I guess i send the offer each time.
Shouldn't i royal marry while Philippe reigns? Or something else?

Something seems up with BI now. I don't think I've done a game since the last patch mini-update where BI didn't fall to Austria. I don't mind that much, since Austria is an easy Ally and seems to always join any war that I want them too, but it is strange constantly seeing a Super-Austria that eats all of France, even if I manage to keep them from PU'ing Bohemia and Hungary.

I just don't understand how Paradox expect me to get lowlands as Castille, if BI is no more available to Castille. How am i supposed to get lowlands if Burgundy falls under Ferrara or French, or stays independent. Isn't this awkward?

I'm not asking for inheriting Burgundy anymore, obviously the game won't allow it. I just want the lowlands so i can complete the Spanish mission tree.

It matters who sends the last offer. For example if you send a royal marriage offer while Philippe reigns then the royal marriage will end when your ruler dies. If Burgundy then sends you the offer and you accept, it will end when their next ruler dies and if that is Charles, you can't get the inheritance. So you have to send all the royal marriage offers so that it doesn't end when Charles dies. If they fall under Stettin or Ferrara and this country is not emperor, you have been ineligible for the inheritance and the most likely reason for that is that you didn't send the last royal marriage offer. The only other things which would make you ineligible as a royal marriage partner would be that there is a bigger one, that you are emperor(then you are eligible as emperor), that you are not a monarchy or that you are not independent.

Thank you so much, i'm not sure if that was the case but today i got the BI in 1474, Charles died idk why and i had PU over Burgundy. Emperor demanded lowlands but didn't attack me because he was allied to me.

Tho i'll not continue this saved game because Aragon stayed independent, i really don't know how this happened either.

In current patch, Inheritance can go to Emperor, France, or their biggest ally with royal marriage (I think you need the alliance but I'm not 100% sure atm). It really helps your chances if they're rivaled to Emperor and France, but even then, they might choose to remain independent.

With the new 'introduce heir' mechanic, it's not the end of the world if you miss out on the inheritance. You can just claim them into a PU the normal way sooner or later.

Definitely sounds like they offered the RM, that's the only way Stettin/Ferrara could've got it instead of you unless they were elected emperor.

Kind of stupid, but yeah, you definitely do want to be the one offering the RM to Burgundy, never accept their offer.

I played as Castile many times and almost always I get Burgundy directly or Habsburg event, you should have diplomatic reputation higher than their other allies, same apply to event, main problem is when Burgundy is strong they choose to stay independent.

You have time until 1530 for the Iberian Wedding to happen.

Game forces you to cheat
The Burgundian inheritance is random. While you can influence your chances, it is never guaranteed. But the game doesn't force you to get the BI. If you don't get it, you can just conquer the provinces for your missions. The mission Italian Ambition gives you permanent claims on the lowlands.
