Hello I would like to ask if somebody already have tested triggering Burgundian Inheritance for Castile with Emperor patch?
- is it necessary to force it to trigger and if yes, how? is it same as it was before 1.30?

I mean in previous patches, there was good tactic to RM Burgundy (not ally) and to go war with some of their vassals where you have claims in Low Countries thanks to mission tree... and then stay in this juicy war until burgundy king dies (before 1500) and as Castile you almost always get Burgundian Inheritance (even if not HRE at that time)....

Is it still possible to force it this way? Or is it still necessary to force it this way?

I strive for 'perfect' game as Spain, I don't play iron mode so far (I don't mind save and reload from time to time when necessary), thanks.

--- edit

should Burgundian Inheritance be guaranted to trigger even without that costly war with Burgundy / Holland it would be even better for Spain

You don't get it directly from Burgundy anymore. You need to marry and ally Austria, and hope that they inherit. Then Austria may give you the lowlands.

Edit: Technically, it's still possible to get the whole inheritance by being Burgundy's biggest marriage partner. It's far more likely to go to France or the emperor, though.

OK I understand, thanks

yeah this " it's still possible to get the whole inheritance by being Burgundy's biggest marriage partner"
I just wanted to know if that it triggers is guaranateed because, before I had to go to war with Burgundy to ensure that it will trigger,
because when I did not in many games it did not trigger at all...

So if it is triggering 100% and I don't need to force it with very expensive war now then it's good enough for me
and I will RM Burgundy and Austria too... to increase chances of inheritance

I can even ally Burgundy now, I just turn off offensive wars and I will have even better backup in case of defensive war...

thanks

The event was more probable if Burgundy was losing the war, so allying them for defensive wars is probably a bad idea. You don't need to be involved in the war to inherit as Spain (or any mariage partner), but if you wage the war yourself you can make it last longer. The best is probably to RM Burgundy, and not attack it until it is losing a war vs France or Austria.

I am just reading a book on Charles Quint and actually the Burgundian Inheritance was rather a PU between Burgundy and its marriage partner, that was Austria, but Burgundy still existed. It is more similar to the Iberian Wedding in EU4 where both Spanish countries continue to exist. The French king seizes all provinces belonging to the French area in history as in game.

I have not played Burgundy this patch but apparently the event can now trigger even for players (that was not possible in former patches). In this case, Burgundy should become the junior partner of a PU with a marriage partner or the Emperor, and the player will then have to break the PU.

You just need Charles to die with a female heir or a male heir with a weak claim. You don't need them to be at war, and it happens the vast majority of the time now. In fact, I would say that as Spain, you should try to keep them from losing wars, since that opens up the possibility that they are forced to release their Dutch vassals that you are hoping to get for free.

I must be very unlucky. I have yet to see the BI happen in the 6+ games I’ve played in the new patch. They remain as an independent state.

It´s out of your control to an extent. It is and will always be a bit luck based and that is WAD.

I got it as Aragon in 1460 once, after they had lost 2 PUs.

It's luck. I am a bit obsessed with getting the full Burgundian Inheritance (sorry but it just feels so good). Basically, in about 50 attempts I've noticed...

If you're France, and they are rivalled to Austria or whoever the Emperor is, you will almost always get it. Viceversa is true.

If they are rivalled to neither France or Austria, it's 50/50.

If they are rivalled to both France and Austria, and you're a third party, it's almost definite you'll get it.

If they're rivalled to only one, and you're a third party, you have a fair chance.

The event can fire with no heir, Marie (the Marie), a weak heir or sometimes an average heir. In my Aragon run, they had a strong heir who died and I got it.

I've seen it fire anywhere from as early as 1452 (in my current save, I was so delighted I took a sceenshot to look at for fun) or as late as whenever Charles dies. Only problem is the longer Charles lives, the more suicidal wars he'll get into. You really want him dead as soon as possible.

I also went on a run in which like it almost never fired because they always had a strong heir. It's luck...

In order to inherit burgundy as any country other than France or the emperor you have to have a royal marriage and you have to have more cities than the other marriages. Also you will have a 0% chance of getting it if you accept their marriage as it goes away when their ruler dies. you have to have them accept your marriage.
