Columbus might have brought back Vitis labrusca grapes from the Americas, but he certainly didn't bring Vitis vinifera back which is native to Eurasia. Though I doubt he would have since the parts of the Americas he visited were far too warm for grapes.

Actually some of the things you have mentioned would be perfect in a game like Crusader Kings 2, much more than EU 3.
Cesare Borgia's conquest of central Italy, for instance, or the War of the Roses. In fact, I hope there will be some kind of War of the Roses scenario / DLC soon or later.
Heck, I hope they will expand the history files to cover the 100 years war at least.
Er, with the end date at 1453, how much gameplay can the player get? Unless you get a kick out of loading at 1420s and seeing Joan of Arc there.

Look guys. Everyone knows that Columbus brought horses back from America in 1089. That's why there shouldn't be any cavalry in the game when it starts -- it's so unhistorical. He brought to America the technology to make music recordings on records, which is why they didn't have those in Europe until the modern age. Columbus took them all and gave them to the leader of the Cherokee tribe. The Cherokee, unfortunately, buried them in one of their massive mounds as a tribute to their sun god Ra. Until Edison found them in 1792, recorded a Jenny Lind opera, and brought us all recorded music.

Sigh. They weren't aliens. They were time travelers from a future earth. People have just evolved to be smaller and paler so the drawings make them look like aliens. I don't know why everybody always gets this wrong. Years of pop culture distorting things to make a better "story" I guess.
No, he was given virgins as gifts from the American tribes. The legend of "grapes" arises out of a linguistic error, namely a mistranslation from the Syro-Aramaiac that Columbus used to record more salacious entries and details in his diaries.
Quite a few event chains make references outside the Medieval period or are otherwise implausible. Nika riots, and the military wargaming and samurai training events come to mind.
One of the assassination plots ends with a lone bowman on a grassy knoll.
The game has plenty of non-medieval references Including one that recreates the ending of Thelma and Louise but in a horse drawn cart so there is no problem with other cultural references and I think the Poe idea for an event is excellent and should be adopted. I also wouldn't have a problem with Amontillado being used in reference to it. Slightly historically inaccurate, yes, but its a nod to those who know the story so they get the reference.

I would love that addition. As many events as possible for republics is always good. I can already smell the plotting and factions of great republics
