I have a 12 Bismark class battleship fleet fighting American carriers. But my ships can't shoot the carriers. How can I get them to win?

And KMS Bismark suffered extremely heavy damage and is sure to sink soon. How do I retreat her? I am kind of attached to that battleship.

the problem with surface combatants (battleships and such) is the range at which carriers can engage via their CAGs.

Unless you have a very fast surface fleet that can chase down the carrier fleet, you're just providing xp to the carriers by letting them bomb the crap out of your surface fleet.

As to disengaging combat with naval forces, not a clue. I avoid that part of the game as much as possible.

If you go with big SAG doomstacks you NEED some kind of air support to keep the CAGs busy. Having the best engines possible helps a lot, although this takes a lot of forethought. For air units, NAV and INT/FTR/HeavyFtr depending on range. You can't win a battle with SAGs (Surface Action Groups) when the enemy has air superiority.

As for retreating, it depends on how your ships are organized. If you went the doomstack route, you'll have to retreat all of them. A better idea - in my opinion - is to organize well balanced SAGs that have their positioning penalties nullified by leader skill. This will help with engaging carrier fleets, and you can have just one or two engage at a time and cycle them out as your air units do their work.

NEVER STACK SHIPS WHEN THERE IS STACKING PENALTY. THEY SHOOT EACH OTHER. also-big screen cover-light cruisers for AA. also-air support-own fighters AND naval preferably, if none are aviable, then tactical bombers. you can win fight agains japan as china with this tactics. lotta CL with fighter and bomber support.
