Greetings,
Recently there has benn discussion in multiple threads (e.g. dev diary of 5th March) about a possible rework of the Carpathian culture group.
The main suggestion are usually to move Slovak culture to West Slavic, Romanian to tthe renamed Balkan, possibly leaving Hungarian and maybe Transylvanian alone in the group. Some would even dismantle the Transylvanian group altogether.
I hope in this thread we can discuss what would be the best way to improve the situation there, considering the effects on on the Balkans and the West Slavic group (as in the HRE via Bohemia) since both those areas are in focus for the next DLC.
Personally I think Transylvanian culture should stay as it is, considering the multicultural nature and game balance in the area. There is an event already in the game, Romanian revolt for Hungary and Transylvania which changes multiple provinces to Romanian culture, so imo its fine it is. (Perhaps a more dynamic approach would be better for this event though.) Improvements are welcome nevertheless (see my other thread about Transylvanian culture in my signature).
Moving Slovak culture to West Slavic has some solid arguments, although I would like to point out the homogenic bloc of this culture as ahistorical (Pozsony province was basically 3 cultural and the ethnic border was norther; an addition of provinces like Komárom would be welcome). Do note that there is also a nationalist event for Slovaks as well, similar to the one I mentioned for Romanians, called Slovak National Awakening (a bit early for the timeframe though)
What would be interesting as some suggested to mix the West slavic + Hungarian + Transylvanian + Slovak and move Romanian to Balkanic, to represent that these nations were close historically, multiple times in PUs of each other. Personally I think this one should be considered.
Finally if we were to decide that Hungarian should be in its own group, I would suggest that they should get more accepted culture slots, possibly via a special government.
There are many possibilites on a rework, what do you think would be the best and why?
